Of course not. Because that would mean, by definition, she would have to acknowledge USAID does something beneficial for them, and we all know yt US can only harm Africa.

In my experience social media does have an impact on mental health, which at first glance may appear to be somewhat contradicted by the studies cited in the above article.
Cheng et. al. 2025 (the UK study referred to in the article) is interesting. It had a large, longitudinal sample of secondary school age participants taken from the #BeeWell survey's data set. They examined both the use of social media and gaming. They looked for causitive links between them and increased incidences of "internalising difficulties".
"Internalising difficulty" describes emotional problems or behaviours which are internalised and typically kept to oneself. Examples might be depression, anxiety, social withdrawal, low self esteem, and loneliness. This is not an exhaustive list. Nor is it a particularly comprehensive list of issues affecting mental health (which is in and of itself a nebulous phrase at best).
To quote the article,"There was no evidence that time spent on social media or gaming frequency predicted later internalizing symptoms among girls or boys." However, that is all it says.
It is silent on the impact social media or gaming might have on those who, for whatever reason, have internalising difficulties or other mental health needs. It is also silent on other impacts social media and gaming might have on the devlopment of young people. And older people for that matter. Mental health is an important issue but it isn't the only issue in play here. We'd do well to remember that.
Perhaps these results are not overly surprising. Since Freud we've known that it is our experiences in early childhood which have the biggest impact on our mental wellbeing in later life. And while many of Freud's ideas have not stood the test of time those that have, including this one, remain as relevant as they ever were. Nearly 30 years ago the ACES study confirmed the depressing correlation between adverse childhood experiences and poorer than average physical and mental health in later life.
It is perhaps arguable (if a little flippant) to say that by studying the impact on 11-16 year olds they were too late: the damage was already done.
Using anecdotal experience from working with people only slightly older than the study's sample group as evidence of anything generalisable would be imprudent. I work with a self selecting sample - those who present themselves for therapy. Recent statistics in the UK (where I am) show that just under a quarter of 11-16 year olds are likely to have a mental health issues. That means just over three quarters don't. Most kids and young adults are coping well enough (it is easy to forget that but important to acknowlegde it) and it is only a small subset of the ones who aren't that I will encounter.
That said, it is very common in my work that social media is brought up as an aggravating or exacerbating factor. It isn't ever the sole or primary cause of their issues, but the detrimental impact it can have on those already struggling should not be understated. Gaming seems far less problematic and in many cases actually seems to be, if anything, a benefit to mental health. Why they have been bundled together, I don't know.
That's not to say I agree with an outright ban. Bans tend to be unnuanced sledgehammers and this issue is far too complex for such a blunt instrument. As Maslow told us, if your only tool is a hammer, every problem comes to resemble a nail.
Regulation of tech companies, especially with regard to algorithms, is a much better answer. But that requires a nuanced response to a complex multifaceted issue.
And it seems there are altogether too many blunt tools in the corr
idors of power these days for that. AI?

Gonna speculate and say that social media would have not helped you, given that you are mess that cries about the Doctor gender while dressing like a teenage girl.

This isnt about you. And not even your spawn. This is about increasing the surveillance state and preventing marginalised youths from finding acceptance and community. The harms of social media such as the algorithm, hate speech and disinformation could easily be legislated against, as we saw with the international push back against Grok generating non-consential sexual imagery and CSAM, without removing all access to vulnerable individuals to whom social media could be a literal lifeline.
Oh, you want to go there?

I don't see any inflammatory attacks.
But still, that's rich from StevieP who spent years chastising people for daring to say that going to the store without a mask in 2022 2023 2024 2025 might not be akin to genocide.
