I can't really see how it's not anti-intellectualism to say nobody can talk about something they haven't personally experienced. Especially something they can't ever personally experience. You know, maybe because of the way they were born.

It'd definitely cut down on the stupid statements made on ResetERA.com though.

edit: Moral questions especially should not be bracketed in this way or else your position is really that there's no potential at universal morals at all. Slavery is either bad or good regardless of your race. Abortion is either bad or good regardless of your sex. I really can't see what, if any, questions are plausibly bracketed off by demographic characteristics. We can certainly be more informed by someone with more knowledge that happens regardless of a subject. But they need not be part of the demographic, there may be reason to listen to a white professor of Islam about Islam than Nepenthe for example, even if more Black people globally are Islamic. If the contention truly is that "you wouldn't understand" then humanity itself is over, the hope for a "global progressive society" is doomed and hence, nihilism.

I find myself morally required to reject this position, you wouldn't understand.

Spoiler:  (click to show)
But that's none of my business...

Whose property were these things they dug out of the ground or whatever?

I thought we progressives were against people inheriting wealth? A more advanced welfare state seized these so they could be put to public use. We can thank the British Empire for its redistribution of wealth from foreign bougies towards education.

Really don't feel safe on a forum that promotes property rights aka capitalism.

The irony is that in most cases a lot of this stuff only still exists because the British hoard and preserve things.
Most countries wouldn't spend the resources to preserve and store the artifacts or put them on display.

remember when studios were deathly afraid of the dumb names comic books use and just straight up refused to call anyone anything for years  lol

have to read external resources to learn Obadiah was "Iron Monger" and Ivan was "Whiplash"

meanwhile Sam Raimi had leaned into it with people on the street being like "huh, that guy over there is some kind of Doctor Octopus!"

He couldn't have botched that post more, one of the more beloved/respected characters (both versions) and Gunn has already said he's continuing into the DCU even if the movie events may not be canon. (Which makes it sound like they have plans for him rather than just dumping him.) But yeah, let's attack the guy because the cast is Latinx. lol

Quote:I've always thought Nintendo was pretty genius with marketing Mario as a very universal type character. They were proved right there.

But as the series progressed you started to see more subtle Japanese influences. The game that was super clear first was Super Mario Brothers 3. The Tanooki Suit. Not only was it not localized as Raccoon suit, because one already existed in game, but it featured a Japanese animal and associated folklore, the statue transformation. I even remember reading that in the manual as a kid.

Super Mario World even had more with the Sumo Bros and the Banzai Bills.

Zelda has always had a lot, but I think it went even more prominently with BOTW/TOTK. The Sheikah being a ninja clan in inspiration--although that started in OoT, they were fleshed out more in BOTW. And of course, the megatama figures used for the sages stones.

Animal Crossing has the lovable Kappa as well.

I know there's tons more as well. But these are just the ones I can think off the top of my head. I know SMB3 had a lot.

What are others you've seen?

Front loading this problematic post by saying something or other is wrong and bad or whatever.

There’s a moment I found funny for the wrong reasons in Spiderverse 2. There’s this infinite multiverse of worlds and possibilities. One dimension is this futuristic Mumbai crossed with Manhattan. It’s the main hub for that universe where its Indian Spider-Man operates. Still, the movie stops a beat for him to complain about the British Museum stealing their stuff. Even in the idyllic India supremacy universe, somehow, they were still robbed by the British. They couldn’t imagine a universe where colonialism didn’t happen.

Most of these countries have been selling their "treasures" to European countries and America for a long time for shit they prefer. Same reason the "natives" gave gold and land for beads and trinkets. These idiots should try learning about marginal utility and comparative advantage instead of being mad.

edit: When the Europeans left they totally told each other "can you believe we got those dumbass cacs to give us this stuff for gold?"

No one summoned the horde over the implication that a white European-American character is universal while Japanese culture is not? Or does the OP have sufficient protection to get statements interpreted charitably?
