Perhaps I'm not knowledgeable enough on the subject. But isn't a good portrayal that doesn't mock or belittle the best to hope for? This is pretty far removed from Mickey Rooney in representation. And I don't know the finer points of how trans culture in south east Asia is taken into account either, I'm guessing that's not something global either. Isn't it good enough and just say: "good, this was adequate but it can be better if you would have done [this]"?

User Banned (1 Month): Dismissing of trans concerns

Those of you saying it would've been better if they had cast a cis-woman, I'm not sure that would've worked in the context of the story. She wants to get the money so she can get gender affirming surgery, so if the character was played by a cis-woman, audiences would've been unable to understand or relate to her because they would all be thinking "why would you need surgery? you already look like a woman"

I'm not saying trans people need to get gender affirming surgery, but in the context of the story and for people to understand and empathize with the character, I believe that it was a smart thing to not cast a cis-woman.

A trans person would've definitely been preferable, but as the articles about it states, it didn't seem logistically possible this time.

I loved the character and her interactions with the others.
