Probably not worth making a thread about it. Why is piracy frowned on and often ban worthy of other media, but openly discussing and talking about leaked scans of Manga ok? It is *piracy*, no links are given but everyone talks about it with images sometimes passed around of the scans, which are not available yet to certain countries. It's talked about/allowed, yes some manga is hard to obtain or near impossible to get, but alot of the time it's used as *moral justification*.

Banning people for it would literally require us to monitor people's IP addresses and then cross-match that with a list of what's been localized in said country because some series are available in some locations while not available in others. And that's also ignoring the fact that there's places in major cities where you can get Japanese manga magazines or the fact that you could just sign up for the Japanese website as a Westerner. Then there's the fact that some areas have a full series available and others only have a handful of chapters, some are day and date and others are volume by volume. It's a stupidly complicated web of nonsense and you're asking us to do a huge amount of work for something that's barely an issue.

Truly how stupid is b-dubs? Why the fuck is he going through the logistics of banning people for discussing leaked scans of manga? Literally any normal person would just respond to this that you're not going to control what people are allowed to look at, just don't promote the piracy sites.
By the way, the person didn't even ask people to get banned but b-dubs instantly went there. This is truly the only way he knows how to moderate the forum. 
No thought spend on whether it would be stupid to ban people for discussing leaked mangas, instead obsessive focus on the logistics of how hard it would be to ban them.

Interesting to see the effects of something this massive just going away. Tiktok was so much more than just goofy videos it was a robust and successful storefront for a lot businesses and particularly favorable for small business. Then you have the music industry which saw old songs and new go viral on a regular.

Then you have activism like pro-Palestinian voices that are suppressed on other platforms, now basically only have Twitter which is not good. This sucks imo but maybe another platform can come out of nowhere...and then get bought by an American oligarch lol.

It's gonna be a real shame when TikTok goes down and  you can't...buy goods from storefronts anymore...or be introduced to new music...or fight for support defend read words about Palestine?

Also I love that Scuffed & friend are the first to bang on about anticapitalism blah blah blah, but a key defense of every pointless social media dopamine firehose is "but what about the movement of capital?!"

I heard this talking point a lot, that turning off the switch will destroy thousands of small businesses, even hundreds of thousands, but as someone who doesn't use it, what is it exactly that those people are selling that can't be done on the other countless platforms?

I think this is part of why this migration from US TikTok to Rednote and the ensuing cultural exchange is so wholesome. The people migrating over are more genuine and open to learning about the app and its users, treating Chinese netizens as normal people who can help them navigate the new app, and engaging in shared interests. Instead of it being a bunch of assholes jumping on to the app and screaming "Free Taiwan" or "Uyghur camps" which would just a be a firestorm of atrocity Olympics.

It would also be very rude to join into a new app and then immediately make it more difficult for Chinese users if westerners were all over the app shitting up the place and then the whole app has to go in crisis mode.

It's an app where middle class women share their outfits, makeup tips, photo locations and hobbies. Political discussion in general is not allowed.
