I'd be curious to know, but I'm not even sure if non-binary people somehow insist that their body itself is non-binary. Like that would limit the idea of non-binary to a little subset of actually androgynous looking people which doesn't fit the usual "anything goes" of the trans gang.

You guys keep searching for internal consistency in an ideology where there is none. They're not consistent about what sex means, about what gender means, about what male means, about what man means, about what female means, about what woman means, about what non-binary means, etc. None of it. All of them have shifting definitions that are swapped out interchangeably for whatever will give them the biggest leg up in a given conversation to look down on and pass judgment on other people from their persecuted pedestal.

We are not true to our principles. We have all collectively let a lot of awful shit slide because we want to talk about videogames. Selectively making a stand on this particular thing that will negatively affect the site's usability for thousands of people should only be done after careful consideration.

Just to be clear, what we're discussing is breaking any future twitter embeds while maintaining the already existing ones in order not to affect the readability of older threads. If people want to use screenshots they can, we'll have some guidelines for that to try and protect against fake nonsense, and we're not going to be breaking links to the platform (that'd create a huge mess). What we're talking about is just making it so people can't embed in the future.

I totally get what you're saying and I do want to try and make sure this does as little damage to us as is possible. I don't want this to be a "We stabbed ourselves in the stomach in order to spit on Musk" situation.

That said, all this is happening at an awkward moment given we're currently trying to set up for a major site upgrade. So it's going to take a minute.

That sounds like a solid plan, thank you for the reply. Have you decided on how regular (not embedded) Twitter URL links will be handled? For example, if the source of a piece of news or rumor is a twitter link, will it be able to be posted as a url in the OP?

Given the technical side is going to take a minute, we're taking the time to iron out the details as much as we can. That way we can make a proper announcement and have some guidelines available.

Just my two cents but Xitter needs to go from Era. I get that Xitter is a big site worldwide but just because it is now doesn't mean it will always be and we need to stand up for positive change.

We can work with screenshots and links but embedding directly is benefiting an actual Nazi.

As others have mentioned we can try and drive traffic to actual websites instead of social media which helps the health of the internet as a whole.

I'm gonna be real, we're happy we can finally do it. I've been trying to get people to stop using it as a source for years now. I've made threads about how bad it's getting, about how some of the fastest growing accounts are literally just Nazis, only for them to get trolled. At one point we literally had to issue a staff post in the Musk thread to stop posters from attacking people who left Twitter for other sites. Yes, there's technical issues that need overcoming, but I'm happy we can finally ask our tech team to tackle them and I'm not the only one on staff who feels that way.

Don't mistake my wanting to maintain the past with a hesitance to do it. A bunch of us have been wanting to for a long time
