The folks at Rolling Stone may be shocked to learn that not only do people in other countries also have television, many countries even make their own programming.

A huge part of the equation is proportionality. The one who does the spoiling is inherently in a position of extreme safety. You have almost nothing whatsoever to lose. The act of not spoiling something is one of the easiest things you can possibly do, totally regardless of context. The damage done by questioning the adequacy of your spoil prevention habits are hilariously tiny. The one who has been spoiled is in the extreme opposite position. High potential of the total ruination of one of life's most significant joys. Regularly asked to go to absurd lengths to do something as simple as watching a fucking movie. Regularly subjected to frankly embarrassing levels of extreme strawmanning and other such at this point entirely normalized bullshit.

The question of time is typically flipped when 'spoiler culture' nonsense comes up. The reality is basically that meme where Obama offers a compromise while the republican repeatedly steps further to the right. Pre-internet spoiling wasn't really a thing. The conditions for it to occur were so heavily in favor of simply never getting spoiled without anyone ever having to consciously do anything whatsoever that the incredibly rare instance of something getting significantly spoiled was practically an event. Like, you would get your ass beat if you intentionally spoiled something. And then everyone would laugh in your face because you fucking deserved it. I had only ever been spoiled on one thing in my entire life up until the past decade or so (it was a total accident and that person spent weeks profusely apologizing) where changing internet norms turned something that should still be very simple into a deadly minefield.

The internet pretty much turned the spoiler into an actual potential point of conflict. The one who does the spoiling used to not have to do anything at all. Now they have to do the bare minimum to not be an asshole. Over time, these assholes constantly shit out an endless sea of nonsense arguments (some of which are repeated in this very thread) that they've almost certainly spent more time developing than they have considering how to be decent human beings in a normal social situation. This is the case no matter how much time has been wasted attempting to normalize the assholery. Like okay, not all who spoil are assholes, but I'd still absolutely kick every single one of you in the balls (or equivalent) if a genie gave me three wishes. I'd (probably) avoid lasting injury but that shit would fucking hurt. I'm aware I probably sound like a psychopath to some but this used to pretty much be the default position. And it remains the morally correct one too.

Gonna be real that I'll never understand the idea that there's no obligation or basic decency- to not help someone cheat on their partner.

I have done this the past several relationships. I'm 32, the most important thing is to have children someday and have a family. I was with someone of 5 years and besides the slew of problems in our relationship, I permanently ended it because she wasn't sure about having children anymore. There is absolutely nothing wrong with not wanting children, but I asked her right before I made her my girlfriend if she did want children someday and said yes.

So yes, make sure to ask some serious questions very early in the relationship. It will save heartache in the long run.
