no, it's the exact opposite, your position is the one which is anti-factual - an amputee who claims they identify as having two legs and in fact a hormone they are taking has made them biologically have two legs now should be gently told that no, factually they do not have legs and there is no magic pill that will change that

likewise a person born male who claims they are now biologically female should be gently told that no, biologically they are not female and there is no magic pill that will change that

facts are important and exceptions prove the rule: a rare person being born without eyes doesn't mean eyes are on a spectrum, a rare person being born without ears doesn't mean ears are on a spectrum, and a rare person being born intersex doesn't mean sex is on a spectrum

There was a time when to be trans was to be biologically male/female, while believing yourself to be female/male. This was "living as" the woman/man you felt yourself to be, which meant adhering to the (ultimately sexist) gender roles of women/men as defined by society and culture, taking opposite sex hormones, and perhaps undergoing surgery.

Not every trans people would choose to have "bottom surgery", because they understood that you cannot literally turn a penis/vagina into a vagina/penis. It was a simulacrum. Everyone, doctors and patients, knew this. It was not controversial.

I know many feel that believing yourself to be the opposite sex is a mental illness and as such this belief isn't something to be humoured. Personally I don't really care about the why, whether there is something "wrong" in the brain, whether males and female have different brains and it's possible for a human to develop the brain of one sex and the body of the opposite. Whatever. People can do want they want with their bodies, they're not hurting anyone else.

There was a time when a trans woman's biggest fear was coming out to her (potential) partner due to a fear of his reacting negatively, which could range anywhere from dismissal and ghosting, to acts of extreme violence. There was a very real fear of revealing your trans nature due to the homophobic belief that trans women were just gay men pretending to be women in order to trick straight men into gay sex.

That's why I was on-board with "trans women are women" which I saw as an attempt to correct that sort of mindset. It was also a message aimed at the "I tell it like it is" type of douchelords that would insist that "well actually, you are biologically a male", whether to a a trans woman's face or behind her back. If they're not hurting you then don't be a jerk, ok?

Unfortunately we no longer differentiate between males who see themselves as, and want to live as, women, and men for whom seeing themselves as a woman is a sexual fetish. It's entirely the fault of the latter that this is the case. They're the ones who came up with the "transgender" umbrella to provide cover for themselves at the expense of the much smaller group of the former.

We've gone from "trans women just want you to treat them the same you would any woman" to "actually trans women are biologically no different to cis women. One cannot be both a "trans woman", different from and more marginalized than "cis women" and thus deserving of greater accommodations than "cis women", and also be "biologically female", no different biologically from "cis women". It makes no sense. How is "trans" even a thing?

A truly progressive society would abandon the concept of gender and accept that the only thing that makes someone a woman/girl is simply being born female. Men and women, boys and girl, can live their lives however they like without have their maleness and femaleness question.

Unfortunately we currently live in a world where people who consider themselves progressive insist that sexist stereotypes are enforced as biological truths. When someone like Melody posts that he "is a lesbian" and "fucks girl", he's not sharing some objective truth, he's openly sharing his fetish with the world. Decent human beings don't insist on making the unwilling part of their sexual fetishes. Perverts do. It's why killamajig hasn't shared his 100 terabyte horrific anus collection.

so should people be allowed to do whatever trans things they want because it's their own body, when kids might see that and get the idea that it's appropriate to chop their cocks off, that this doesn't really constitute permanent harm? what about how the stress of transition on a spouse leads to an increased chance of a broken home, leaving a child without a father or mother? or the harm it does to society in contributing to the ongoing mentality that we are post-truth, that only one's lived experience matters and we don't have to believe scientifically factual things anymore, what that does to the rest of...everything?

The trans thing is easy. If you want to be a different sex than the one you were born as, great. We, as a society, probably shouldn’t put up a bunch of unnecessary barriers for people who want to live that way. And in my opinion we don’t for the most part.
