Quote:That's basically one of the most famous quotes Anne Frank wrote in her diary (well she wrote, "I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart" ). There's a connection to be made there but i'm too tired right now to make it.

Zeliard wrote:You can try to articulate it anyway, if you can. "We're being overrun by actual Nazis 80 years later and they govern our most important institutions as elected officials, but I still firmly believe most people are good."

There's appeal to authority and then there's whatever this Anne Frank nonsense is. Just please stop acting surprised that this guy was elected for the 2nd time on his 3rd attempt - the one he lost still garnering him 70+ million votes - as if that has no bearing on the electoral population that fucking elected him. Again.

Again, I'm sure some of those may be your relatives, even very close relatives. Maybe it's your shitty dad who just loves Trump. They merit the disdain they earn. We don't have to keep pretending we aren't surrounded by horrible human beings in the face of all evidence otherwise, and that isn't misanthropy, that isn't even cynicism. It's just taking a look around.

Zeliard, you are human garbage. The world will be a better place when you are dead.

When Anne Frank didn't cancel her Netflix subscription, I side-eyed.

When Neville Chamberlain didn't cut off Amazon Prime, I de-rizzed him from the "op af" tier list...

But this...this is unforgivable.  The nazis are back. And y'all can't even give Captain American 5 stars on Rotten Tomatoes?  Someone called someone a "gay ass pussy ass bitch" in an episode of Severance, and it still won the Emmy?  All knowable dimensional Hitlers have entered our dimension, the Singular Hitler Nazi Dimension, and we are in the worst timeline of anything preceding this moment of mankind.  I'm eating Oops! All Hitlers! Cereal for Christ sake, and I can't boycott it because I need to eat.  Do you want me to starve?  Why do you want me to starve???!

But you know 70 million people in the US voting for Trump for a host of different reasons, doesnt prove the statement "most people are good" wrong... right?

the idea that we are inherently bad or selfish comes from thinkers who thought God needed to give us morals because we had none otherwise. And these lines of thought have been propped up by religions and various right wing ideologies. We based game theory on this idea and built ideologies on top to reinforce it.

If you read some philosophy you can find all kinds of different ideas relating to morality. Or you can find plenty of sociologists that disagree with this as well.
Zeliard, post: 136533321, member: 58109 wrote:I don't think we're integrally bad as in born bad. Or good. That's religious nonsense.

By most measures we are for the most part a product of our environment. That doesn't change a single thing I said. I'm not talking about a genetic predisposition towards bad; I'm talking about how we actually seem to be and actually act, in life, and in policy, consistently. We are for the most part a very selfish and very stupid people, and it doesn't help anyone to pretend otherwise.

It's why such things like vaccine mandates have to exist. In any normal society with vaguely thinking people, that wouldn't be necessary. Sometimes you have to actually force people to help themselves and their communities. I don't happen to think people who need those to act in a sensible way there are literally mentally retarded; I think they've been given dreadful information throughout their lives. Nature vs nurture.

"If you read some philosophy." Oof. Like who? Cause most of the ones you're probably familiar with would agree with that entirely. I'd be genuinely surprised if you could name one who supports your view, whatever that even is. I guess you'd need them to articulate it for you.
Humans, the dominant species on earth by many measures, who have achieved feats that are without exaggeration beyond the wildest dreams of predecessors who existed even 100 years prior, got there by being... *checks notes* "selfish and stupid".
I'm With Stupid

"Oh, you like philosophers? Name 3 optimists".

Give Zeliard the Oscar because he is clearly a faggot ass bitch.

I get the anger at the director for the shit he said or the trans lady for what shit she said, but getting mad at Zoe for just saying that she thinks it's mostly about those four women seems unhinged.
It was pointed out in that thread but if people wanted to cancel Zoe why didn't they do it when she was in Nina Simone

What she did there was definitely fucked up
