The nation’s interim rulers have struggled to exert their authority across much of Syria since the Islamist former insurgent group, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, or HTS, led a lightning insurgency that overthrew longtime President Bashar Assad in December.

Former HTS leader Ahmad al-Sharaa is now the country’s interim president — a decision that was announced after a meeting of the armed groups that took part in the offensive against Assad. At the same meeting, the groups agreed to repeal the country’s old constitution and said a new one would be drafted.

Houthis respond to attack with missles targeting USS Harry S. Truman

The Yemeni Armed Forces "are confronting this criminal aggression and responding to escalation by escalation", spokesperson Yahya Sarea said, adding without evidence that the group had launched a second attack against the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman in the Red Sea.

The Houthis launched 11 drones and one ballistic missile at the USS Harry S. Truman and the supporting ships of its carrier strike group, a U.S. official with knowledge of the incident told Task & Purpose. The engagements started shortly after midnight local time on Sunday, March 16 and lasted approximately 12 hours. All of the drones were shot down by U.S. Air Force jets over the Red Sea.

The ballistic missile splashed into the water, and was not on a trajectory to threaten the Navy ships, the U.S. official said. Houthi spokesmen first announced the attack on the Truman carrier strike group, initially claiming to have fired 18 missiles and a single drone.

Mr. Tay runs a YouTube channel, HongKongerStation, that draws attention to continuing civil rights violations in Hong Kong.

In January, Paul Chiang, the Liberal candidate for Markham-Unionville, reportedly told a Chinese-language media conference that people should take Mr. Tay to the People’s Republic of China consulate in Toronto and collect the reward.

“If anyone here can take him to the Chinese Consulate General in Toronto, you can get the million-dollar reward,” Mr. Chiang said, according to Ming Pao, a Chinese-language newspaper.
