Speaking of superheroes 

I honestly never understood all the claims about the Wonder Woman movie and how it "defied male gaze" and all that stuff. It didn't look all that different to me to how Snyder portrayed her a year earlier in Batman vs Superman. Instead my guess is that it's just pure placebo effect. People want to think it's different to validate their beliefs so they come up with the weirdest criteria, hence the article quoted above  about how big beautiful thighs defy the male gaze

At the time I remember people whined about the classic costume. There was a point in other media where they gave her pants and otherwise covered her up. And somehow the exact same costume was okay in the solo movie. Huh.

They also did the thing like, what if the other characters dressed like that! Then in Justice League you have prolonged sequences where Superman and Aquaman are shirtless fighting. That’s a power fantasy, or something. Totally different.

I watched a bit of the first act the other day, the part before she leaves the island. That shit is pure male gaze stuff. You got a bunch of lesbians running around in skimpy outfits, sweating and getting all lesbian, mixed with boob/bikini armour that blends into the skin making them look half naked. It's fucking great.

Last Week tonight can be fun but it's definitely not unbiased. Sometimes the arguments are also just pretty weak. Like in the trans athletes video he brings up that the girl who got spiked with a volleyball and suffered a concussion etc. from it is now actually still a successful athlete which seems pretty irrelevant to the question on whether it could be dangerous if women play trans athletes.
Like imagine a story about how some guy ended up in the hospital after police beat him up and then argue that the beating can't have been that bad because he's now a successful business owner.

The show and those like it use their comedy genre as a way to deflect the shoddy reporting. There are no journalistic standards or responsibility. But some people treat it as gospel. They somehow manage to have it both ways, which is an impressive trick. Like when forum posters say something dumb and try playing it off as trolling.

There are some things he imo gets right, like the way some politicians are jumping on this topic is definitely opportunistic but I guess that also comes in part because the Democrats can't formulate a good answer. Generally he focuses mostly on school sports, so if you're worried about the upper level competition his argument basically just comes down to "there isn't enough research" and "there's only very few trans athletes so it's not a huge deal"
If you're worried about unfair advantages I don't think he formulated a strong case.

When John Oliver and company say the biomechanical differences between males and females are insignificant, they are also implying that if females worked harder, they could compete equally with males. This is so obviously not the case we shouldn't even have to argue this.

I think you are misunderstanding what this tech demo actually is, but I will engage with what I think  your gripe is — AI tooling trivializing the skillsets of programmers, artists, and designers.

My first games involved hand assembling machine code and turning graph paper characters into hex digits.  Software progress has made that work as irrelevant as chariot wheel maintenance.

Building power tools is central to all the progress in computers.

Game engines have radically expanded the range of people involved in game dev, even as they deemphasized the importance of much of my beloved system engineering.

AI tools will allow the best to reach even greater heights, while enabling smaller teams to accomplish more, and  bring in some completely new creator demographics.

Yes, we will get to a world where you can get an interactive game (or novel, or movie) out of a prompt, but there will be far better exemplars of the medium still created by dedicated teams of passionate developers.

The world will be vastly wealthier in terms of the content available at any given cost.

Will there be more or less game developer jobs? That is an open question. It could go the way of farming, where labor saving technology allow a tiny fraction of the previous workforce to satisfy everyone, or it could be like social media, where creative entrepreneurship has flourished at many different scales. Regardless, “don’t use power tools because they take people’s jobs” is not a winning strategy.

Trans-Identified Male Sex Offender Who Tried to Enroll at Oregon High School Sentenced to 20 Days in Jail

A trans-identified male sex offender who attempted to enroll at a local high school in Oregon has been sentenced to 20 days in jail and two years’ probation. Alec Ray Craig, who uses the name Makayla Craig, 27, was arrested last December after an officer at at South Albany High School reported him for pretending to be a 15 year-old girl in order to register as a student.

Craig has told school administrators that his name was Madison and provided a false date of birth. Upon his arrest, it was discovered that Craig is a registered sex offender. He was then arrested on charges of computer crimes, forgery, and false swearing.

“The person appeared to be an adult but was portraying themselves as a 15-year-old girl. After further investigation, the individual gave a false name and date of birth attempting to enroll in high school,” a statement from Albany Police Department read. When announcing Craig’s arrest online, law enforcement turned off comments in response to what they regarded as “hate speech.”

Many replies expressed frustration that the authorities had not included a photo of the sex offender, who was convicted of sexually abusing a minor in 2023. Details regarding his prior conviction were also noticeably absent.

Craig appeared before Linn County Court on April 4, where prosecutors requested a jail sentence of 40 days.

“She, as a registered sex offender, is trying to pretend that she is a juvenile… to become- to be involved with other juveniles in the high school system,” said prosecutor Coleen Cerda.

However, Craig’s defense counsel argued that this period of time in jail would not “serve the purpose that we want” and proposed that community service would be sufficient.

“I don’t know that jail really serves the purpose that perhaps we want,” defense attorney Erik Moeller countered. “And compensatory service, or community service, would better serve the community.”

Craig was ultimately sentenced to 20 days in jail, two years’ probation and was ordered to stay at least 500 feet away from schools.

On social media, Craig uses various terms associated with online fetish communities to describe himself. He has referred to himself as a “femboi,” a label synonymous with the transgender community, as well as a “furry” and a “therian,” indicating that he identifies as a non-human animal. In June 2022, Craig posted a “transfeline Pride” flag to his account, indicating that he identifies as a cat.

Multiple local news outlets reported on Craig’s case while referring to the child sexual abuser as simply a “woman.”
