No, it looks like it's something regarding counting the posts before displaying them. But it may just be accessing that database at all, I'm not sure. I'm also wondering if it might be tied to the like system. There is another update for that since the last one, I was going to try it anyway. I'll mess with stuff later during the more dead time since some stuff I can try and run might take an unknown amount of time, pull a barve while waiting until then I guess.
Not sure why this thread only lasted 1/3rd as long before it started acting like the other did.
It's like what my old grandpappy used to say "You can't fit 10 lb of shit in a 5 lb bag."

Well, it's a lot faster now (in fact the entire forum seems to be, server load dropped from 16% to 11-12%), but it's still not ideal.
The updates may have broken/changed some things, I had to put the navigation back at the bottom and I think I restored the likes to how they looked from the default. But you know, if you notice anything, let me know. I don't think the update broke the link truncation I disabled but it may just be that no link on the pages I looked at was long enough. That one I always have to remember because I manually changed the variable in the code, it's not in the actual styles or templates.
Maybe the thumbs are not an improvement.
No number of likes on posts anymore.
BAN BENJI AND KILL HIM!!

Nah, it was broken, I just fixed it when I saw BIONIC's post and realized what the problem was.
I also managed to get highlighted posts working, the code was what was broken, it was just one line so I was able to figure it out because it said to work only when the setting was != 1 (yes) and likecount was set above 0. Also the box in the settings doesn't work so you can't type in a postcount anyway. For now it's just a placeholder, I don't know what would be ideal to identify them or even if they should be. There's a couple on page 1 of Volume II if anybody wants to see it immediately.
Not sure about the thumbs icon, it just seems off even if it's more correct to the OG.
Speaking of which, I was thinking of slowly darkening the colors of the forum. In general just to make it less white or maybe go all the way towards being dark.
What's the cutoff for the number is likes needed?
Just want to make sure I know when to strategically withdraw my likes.
Buying a new domain was on sale so I have finally bought thebire.com and the site will (hopefully) transition to that, even though it doesn't expire yet I most likely will renew thebore.net for at least one more year because of how well our search engine results are despite me not doing a single thing lmao. I haven't yet switched which domain is the main one but will do that in the next couple days because the domains have to register with DNS and blah blah blah, everything should keep working but you might get logged out. I'm not exactly sure how MyBB's cookies work but usually stuff logs you out when the domains switch and you'll have to update any password manager stuff. A month and a half probably is enough for Google to catch up to the new domain but I'm considering the extra year because of that and also just in case for people who don't visit every month.
Anyway, our host has some AI shit on their domains page, the main thing is for helping you think of domain names but it also has a little bullet point telling you what it thinks the domain you entered will be for. So we are now a brewery or beer review site and/or a coffee enthusiast platform:

Usually on the weekends there's a small very dead period, well, of course the weekend I decided to swap the URL we have at least five people on all the time. There's still usually one on Sunday but if people are on then too, well, tough, I'm swapping the URLs.
Because it's just a DNS change everyone should be able to access again within seconds but in theory this could take a few minutes to up to 24 hours. Just when I do it if anybody is on and they click a thread or refresh or whatever it won't work and they'll immediately get upset and swear off the forum and me forever. Although if you live in some obscure uncivilized place in the boonies like Canada that's what could take up to 24 hours.
I'm pretty sure everyone will get logged out and have to log back in but we won't know until I do it!
Bitch, I don’t remember my burner email or password
https://thebire.com/ is operational. At the moment, thebore.net does not redirect to it but it will eventually do this once everything goes through. Going to thebire.com/forum you will be logged out. If you need your password, at the moment you can hop over to thebore.net/forum and change it or grab it then use it to log in on thebire.com/forum and save. Although you should be able to just get this from your browsers password manager, it is another way to do things until the DNS changes occur.
I have @thebire.com e-mails now if anyone wants one. They come with mailboxes but you can just have them forward to whatever you want. I actually setup the forum's e-mail to do this properly this time! You have to enter a bunch of keys and shit so gmail or whoever doesn't think you're a spammer. I just didn't bother last time. So the next time somebody sends a request to take down ResetERA.com's libel I'll know right away.

finally, a way to register for resetera.com and leave this hellhole
interesting, I replied to a post and it went through as me, but when the page loaded after posting I couldn't edit, because I was suddenly a logged out guest

I think something may have been wonky with the forwarding of the domains as I was getting some hangs and noticing I was back on thebore.net for some reason. Now it seems to have gone through, but I thought it'd send you to thebire.com/forum instead of just to thebire.com. Maybe I should just keep thebore.net as an alias instead of forcing people to the new domain. Maybe I'm overthinking it.
edit: I put an .htaccess file that was supposed to fix the more simple domain thing to preserving the paths but it doesn't seem to do anything. Hope people can not get too turned on by the wlw image or blinded by the red background to see the forum link.
why did you do this anyway
didn't want to get sued by demi for copyright infringement?

Forwarding is still weird. I kept getting an SSL error with my old bookmark, thought the whole site went down or something until I saw some reddit recommendation to change https to http when getting an SSl error. Not sure why but then it worked

yeah, what was wrong lol
No, he couldn't sue over anything. I just thought that since the original site wasn't actually going down that it was more appropriate to replace the url I originally got when we imagined that was the case with something mildly more distinct and that I could also obtain the .com for. It's more of a respect thing that says The Bore was this distinct other thing (and that those people who wanted us gone claimed they wanted back) and The Bire could be this other distinct that still was tied to it. I really should have done it like a year ago.
Also I like the idea of our description being that we're a spin-off of a spin-off of a spin-off of a defunct video game forum and our most popular thread is about another spin-off of that spin-off and its associated spin-offs.
I just tunneled into the dns mainframe through the dedicated decentralized mesh vlan protocol.
the bire looks OK to go. OK to GO.
Spoiler: (click to show)(click to hide) OH GOD

Can someone tell Benji that the password reset option on thebire gives an error “ERROR for site owner: Invalid domain.” And also the captcha for failing to login multiple times also doesn’t load. I think that is giving the same error.

Thank you Lonewulfeus (and archnemesis), I completely forgot about adding the domain to that key. 🙏
Both should be working now. I bet this and the fact that cookies were still including the old domain is why we've all been having slight errors too. Hilarious how much shit works nowdays even when configs are wrong.

I like how evilore -> evilbore -> thebore -> thebire like a shitty photocopy of a photocopy that keeps getting more degraded

I tried both, the form does say an email is sent, but no email is received. The captcha icon is also in the bottom right corner of the screen when I try to log in, but it still does not actually appear. I’m gonna try on my laptop when I get home incase it’s a browser/device issue there. Thank you for letting him know!
@benji Maybe it's worth jumping on Discord and figure out the issue together with him.

benji is too much of a coward to make the details public, but he settled out of court for a sizable number of prepatched fan translated snes jrpg roms

I’m back in, e-mail finally worked. Thank you Benji and archnemesis! Captcha still wasn’t loading but maybe that’s because I was entering an incorrect password still? Who knows but I’m back and I can now contribute to the take a like leave a like economy again.

fair enough; the latter part about the idea of the site is funny.
