He argued that socialism in Eastern Europe failed because they "imitated the Soviet experience in a mechanical manner".[96] According to Kim, they failed to understand that the Soviet experience was based on specific historical and social circumstances and could not be used by other countries aside from the Soviet Union itself.[96] He added that "if experience is considered absolute and accepted dogmatically it is impossible to build Socialism properly, as the times change and the specific situation of each country is different from another".[96] Kim Jong Il went on to criticize "dogmatic application" of Marxism–Leninism, stating:[101]

I think they feel incredibly uncomfortable at not knowing if they should support the character or not. Everyone needs to be fit into a box of what side of history they're on. This is why labels and identities are so important, you don't have to deal with the actual person, only your personal expectations.

Finally watched episode 3. Yeah, I'm not feeling all these changes. The time skip sucks and led to a lot of telling and not showing. The council meeting sucked. The only part that landed was Ellie visiting Joel's house, as abridged as it is. I appreciate them doing more with Dina, but they are really dropping the ball with their approach to Ellie/Dina. Where's the tension??? Mazin clearly doesn't know how to write sapphic romance and whoever directed needed to do better with the tent scene because the script wasn't up to task. I know Ellie is supposed to be closed off but the handling of Dina asking her about her first kill was pretty shit. Jesus, let Ellie crack a little.
