Just because you can enjoy and like Morrigan's big natties doesn't mean 'every' character should be Morrigan and that is something that I think needs to be realized by both camps (or more realistically, the nuanced perspective actually presented by the loudest of both sides, but of course, nuance is dead).



It reminds me a bit of when Hades 2 came out and, because the climate had super shifted, antiwoke losers were really mad about the diverse body types despite the fact that the game and character designs are still incredibly appealing and sexy. Not every game needs to be Hades, but I feel like there wasn't any backlash about the sexy characters from the non-gooner side because it's a game of sexy characters that appeal to more than just 'pale skin, big boobs/butt and slim waist'.



People aren't asking to stop sexualization (in a general audience sense), but more so to just spread it out. My opinion probably doesn't hold much weight, but if nothing else, I think people with these doubts, like yourself and even myself at times, should keep that in mind. It's perfectly normal to have desire expressions of love and desire and it's not hypocritical to have layered opinions of it; just like anything else in life, you can like parts of something and dislike others without one invalidating the other. People put sexuality on a pedestal, but I think it's silly, personally, especially in the context of these media products that think sexuality is throwing big breasts into men's faces and calling it a day.

To be clear, this is not a joke post and please don't use their thread to be weird or lewd. I'm also not talking about porn in this thread.


I have been going through some soul searching the past few days confronting a big anxiety of mine I've had for over a decade. If you've ever read my threads about fighting games, you probably can tell I'm a big proponent against objectification and heavy sexualization of women in fighting games. "sexy" shouldn't be a requirement for all fighting game women, fighting game women should be allowed to be over/look over 30 (looking directly at you Bandai Namco), not all women need sexualized clothing and men players don't need "rewards", cameras need to be less leery, fat women should be allowed in the games, old women, androgynous women, trans women, ugly women, scary women, women of all body types etc.

However, there has always been a part of me that makes me feel like a hypocrite, a liar and a shame to others; like I feel like I'm letting down other women who push for the same stuff, including a few users and mods here that I respect dearly; that I have to hide, downplay or constantly explain away my like for women characters that are many times some of the main sources of the objectification. That if people knew I liked them, they dismiss my critiques which frustratingly has happened.

However, more and more over the years, especially after realizing that I was a lesbian and after much soul searching and looking for advice in other threads and elsewhere online; I shouldn't feel guilty about this, I shouldn't feel shame or worry about people calling me a hypocrite. I can like Catwoman without wanting every woman to be Catwoman. I love Morrigan from DarkStalkers, she was a childhood crush of mine (though I wish they undo her flanderization and let her have her dorky and heroic self back), I love Cammy (though men fans being weird about her bum annoy me) and though her cat stretch in SF6 adorable and something I've done in the past (REVEAL HER AS LESBIAN CAPCOM!!!!):


I love Manon, she is amazing, another crush of mine and everything I'd want in a girlfriend (I admit that Manon thread was me testing the water). I think Mileena is MK's best character and she and Tanya are amazing together. Venessa is awesome. I want to look like Anna Williams, I wish I had that body, I wish I could look that stunning, Makoto from Blazblue is a great character despite no way can I justify her costume (her being canon queer, flirts with the trans woman Mai and has a fun personality). Do I want every character like that? No, but I can't deny I love these characters.

And this gets to the main point of the thread (sorry it took so long and the preamble), this was actually inspired by another user; and it got me too thinking about this and… I would like a Dead or Alive that was MADE FOR LESBIANS AND WLW, BY LESBIANS AND WLW. I've said to myself it's a game I would never play… But I can't deny I would love it and know many wlw and lesbians would also love it.

You can argue Dead or Alive or other T&A fighters like SNK's SNK Heroines already fit that bill; but at least from my perspective, those games are pretty clearly made first and foremost for the titillation and enjoyment of men (and one of the reasons why had to stop playing DOA was because it got too much) and while lesbians and wlw can enjoy that, it's not the same as stuff made for wlw and lesbians by lesbians and wlw. There is a vibe difference; a lack of leeriness, writing quirks and just attitudes you see and feel in art and stories drawn & written by men or for men (and in my experience, often just has a more fun, loving and compassionate feeling to it… same with mlm/gay art and writing).

I wouldn't want it to be an exact carbon copy of DOA (for one thing I'm not a fan of volleyball, Water polo is more fun, Captain Archer agrees).


I want more story, I want a lesbian/wlw dating sim where you grow relationships, go on dates, have cute and fun adventures, be tag partners in tournaments or even rivals etc. I want fun mini games like dancing (either a disco like one or a romantic), something like Fire Emblem's Three Houses's tea part mechanics but maybe it's at a burger bar or diner. I want more cute moments of the characters interacting.

And I'd still want more body types and diversity; I want characters like Rika from Pokémon, a stoic warrior like a Sister of Battle or VF's Vanessa, a big and buff woman like Marisa from SF6, a stylish Androgynous woman, a elegant autistic woman like Symmetra, the dashing rogue pirate lady, The creepy girl who loves spiders and the occult, the snarky "crazy" lady with the wicked smile, a femme fatale, a villainess that fits into the Doronjo trope, the Edelgard, a larger/fat woman who feels no shame, a silverhaired woman in her 50s/60s who still looks stunning and proud, a goth woman, the cool as fuck street artist/musician, a punk/Jolyne Cujoh woman, the snooty rival with the blonde ringlets, the fun outgoing sporty Goku-like best friend, the quirky vtuber, the sing/dancing friend to all animals nature lover, the furry fan, the shy dork, a fun wrestler like Tina Armstrong etc etc all lesbians or wlw… Actually I just named an entire roster's worth of examples… Oops.

Sadly, I just don't ever see a game like this happen, at least not from the AAA, not with male gaze being pushed onto it by publishers to make it more "marketable" and "appeal to our core demographic (men)"; outside of the indie scene I feel like it would get compromised (not to mention being live serviced).

But I feel it should exist; and I don't feel shame in saying that (similarly, a mlm/gay man version should also exist, so many gay men I know would love that if it was full of bears and arm guys).
