I don't really have much stake in this since I don't have any kind of deep attachment to the original movie, nor this remake or its ending. But I'm just going to say that I honestly very much doubt this, given how you've posted in this thread prior to yesterday, and seemed to ignore any users asking if you've seen the movie

Not that it really matters if you had seen it or not anyway - the OP (and original thread title) is so provocatively written it's laughable. If you wanted to just post the article, you could have done that without all the embellishing or throwing in some Blusky takes to further drum up outrage. I feel like even if I had hated the ending of the movie, this thread would have still made me cringe, in all honesty.

It's such needless outrage, over the most trivial of things (a literal kid's movie). If there were polarising opinions and arguments resulting from a thread that was simply about the movie or its ending without any OP bias, then I personally wouldn't have any issue with it.

I think you really just need to take the L and realise you kinda made a bad thread that looked like it was just fishing for knee jerk reactions and/or people all just agreeing the ending was bad, when that clearly hasn't been the case. I fully agree with ISureKnowMyStuff that this really isn't a good look.

Also at least here anyway (UK), the movie has been out since Wednesday (May 21st). It's very possible some people saw the movie before Friday.

I didn't answer the question because it's not something I needed to answer. Only the people who were criticizing the movie were being questioned on whether or not they saw it, as I just pointed out in the post you quoted. What I did do on Saturday morning was rewatch the original so that I could form more detailed thoughts with both versions in mind.

And be very honest with yourself: if I had said, "Yes, I saw the movie," to ISureKnowMyStuff, do you think they would be like, "My bad, I stand corrected!" No, they would probably just accuse me of reading the Wikipedia page or something. They already made up their mind.

You see, I saw the new Mission: Impossible on a large IMAX screen on Thursday night. On Friday morning, I went with my partner (who made the above purchase) and her kid to see Lilo & Stitch. Now, I've censored out the confirmation number and the address of the theater but I'd be willing to give you my social security number and my mother's maiden name, if that would help.

Criticizing Disney live action remakes is like the ultimate hot button issue for nerds lol

1. you get accused of not seein the movie. gotta provide receipts now.
2. you get accused of being nostalgia blind. which is weird, because the advertisin for these remakes is bankin on a lot of nostalgia to begin with.
3. you get accused of bein a chud, or chud adjacent. youtube algorithm brain rot criticism has ruined movie discourse, and I hate it.
4. you get accused of not wanting projects with PoC stars to succeed. I hate that Disney gets to use us minorities as a shield when its convienient.

Meanwhile; Disney is laughin all the way to the bank. Donating money to anti-woke causes, cutting woke characters, and cuttin DEI practices, and enjoyin the free defense squad for the movie. I still remember when Mulan was filmed in goddamn the Xinjiang province just to save a buck.

Think about how hard you advocate for so many Marvel movies, that other people think are pieces of shit because they didn't like XYZ.

I have literally seen you compare original stories to adaptations for Marvel movies and talk about how it's okay that they're different.

And you and I. Marvel Comics mean so much to us! But we both can accept changes to those stories. Even when we don't like it we can accept that it's a different view of the story and the changes aren't inherently bad or change the original story.

The original Lilo and Stitch is always going to be there. Just like the original Extremis story adapted into Iron Man 3 is always going to be there. Or the original Infinity Gauntlet is always going to be there.


It's okay to not like it. It's also okay to like it.

To use a Disney remake example... When I was growing up and got sick and couldn't go to school for a few days. My parents would rent Aladdin and it's sequels. I'd watch them on repeat. I think they actually had to buy Return of Jafar from the rental store because I watched the VHS on repeat so much that the tape snapped.

It's my favorite set of Disney Animated movies to this day...

I also love the live action Aladdin movie. I think it's weaker than the original for sure. Very low energy for most of the musical numbers. And damnit the Jasmine song sucks and Jafar still doesn't get a real villain song. But the spirit is there

And the original is always still there.

To kind of sum up what I'm saying. When I was 20. My friends climbed in a car and drove to a theater and watched the first X-Men movie.

On our way back my best friend of the time started to nitpick and I stopped them with, "Those changes don't matter. The spirit remained."

Now nearly 25 years later, I actually would rather watch the Dolph Lundgren Punisher movie than any of those original X-Men movies. But the spirit was there, even if the execution didn't work for me personally.

That's how I view the two Lilo and Stitch movies. The spirit is there. Even if you don't like the execution. And that is better than most of the live action remakes.
