How that thread went is forcing a line in the sand on a few things shouldn't be ignored or just left to inaction. I've seen boards die on this same concept a few times before. Hostility, hyperbole, hypocrisy, and hand waving have killed better places than this.

Some people just want to act like a toxic asshole and don't want to feel guilty about it. So they come up with all sorts of "progressive" reasons why they can be as toxic as they want and still somehow be "in the right."

The thing about that thread that was the craziest is that people were saying that body shaming is fine if its done to hurt truly awful people but those awful people aren't seeing your fucking posts on a gaming forum. You're literally just shouting body shaming insults where only your peers are. Even if it was on social media they still probably aren't seeing it and only your followers would be, so??????? Doesn't make any sense, literally none. The only reason to do it is because you want to, which, own up to that shit

When someone is saying something upsets them responding with multiple multi paragraph posts about how you don’t care and it’s not a big deal actually is a shitty thing to do. This forum is real bad about treating their fellow posters like there’s an actual human being on the other side of the screen and the embarrassing lack of empathy that happened in that thread is a good example of that. Do fucking better. Appreciate the lock post

Like, you really telling me that some of that wouldn't be actioned from a regular user? Respectfully, constructively — either it is actionable, or it isn't, and it  shouldn't matter who engages in it.

Staff isn't a monolith and sometimes they will disagree. I don't think we need to add more fuel to the drama here by demanding statements or whatever, but maybe that's just me.

FWIW I don't think Nepenthe's opinions (kinda funny how everyone is dancing around naming her) were all that outrageous (even if I disagree with many of her takes), and I wouldn't want a regular member banned over them either. 🤷‍♀️

I agree.  Her opinion wasn't outrageous, but frankly I don't expect users or admins to be perfect in every social/topical issue.  She also gave me some perspectives I had not previously considered.  I still generally agree with the bdubz closing post though.

I agree that not every single disagreement with/between staff needs to be litigated here. Staff have had plenty of terrible takes over the years and yet I don't see this level of outrage for every other instance, nor should there be. Let cooler heads prevail.

Yeah. Just a heads up...any time someone on here made a thread about mens mental health or any other issue regarding men... it turns very toxic fast.

This forum isn't capable of having a men's mental health discussion without it being completely derailed and things turning nasty.

It's fairly difficult to reconcile the viewpoints expressed over many posts over days with the presented official stances and guidelines of the board. Adding the casual mention off site ridiculing of posters to the equation it makes it really hard to ignore the "rules for thee but not for me" stance expressed by more than a few posters in here even before this incident considering the call out of off-site drama from discord/off site battles of the community by staff recently. Shrug, not the best example to show given the focus was already on staff separating themselves from the community in discussions of threads constantly being derailed and/or locked.

I shouldn't really be the one to talk since I wasn't one of the "good guys" of that thread, but I'll make it clear that I do understand that there are negative ramifications with that kind of humor or commentary and I applaud B-Dubs for sharing his truth. While I don't share the same views as everyone else on this topic, that's the beauty of having an internet forum. That said I feel like people have a proclivity to designate someone at odds with them as the enemy thus they need to be "held accountable" for their actions, which is a bigger driver as to why that thread went off the rails. I admit I should've been more sensitive on this topic as I wasn't aware that some feel very strongly about this issue, so I apologize for not being considerate of the space I was in.

As for moderators/staff mocking us behind my back, I'll be honest, I don't really give a shit if people laugh at me behind my back. I say stupid shit sometimes. I'm probably seen as an asshole by most people complaining about that thread! I'm probably ignored by dozens of people who can't stand me. I can't control that. Maybe I am hateable! You have every right to feel however you want about me. I'm not a perfect ally and this website invites this kind of animosity towards people who fall short of someone's standards. I'm not against that! I just don't subscribe to the notion that everyone must adhere to some professionalism that a website pretty clearly doesn't always adhere to. We are human and we always have an ugly side to our characters.

For what it's worth, it's one thing to just laugh at people behind their backs from off site over whatever. It's kind of another thing to do it over people saying "hey, this behavior you are protecting is hurtful to us." That it's a community leader doing it makes it even more hurtful.

We've previously had situations where staff vented off site and mocked people over shit like people being entirely too serious over game sales data (which, yes, there is additional context of prolonged trolling happening that had people extra testy about that situation), and the staff involved in that ultimately stepped down because it clearly crossed a line for people.

And this situation is inarguably over something much more sensitive.

I've never been a big ignore guy, shit I don't even think I have anyone on ignore, but this is getting beyond ridiculous. I've been using this one app that has you meet 6 randos for dinner every wednesday. It's honestly been pretty fun, I can be social for a few hours and have a few drinks. And it was working fine, got a few friends. But over the last month or so the vibe has completely died

a certain demographic of men from a certain country started flooding onto this app, and the vibe started to die. Because of this, many of the women started leaving, and then the app implemented women's only nights on a different day, which is basically a knife in the heart of most guys using it, since now every dinner is all dudes (50% of said certain demographic) and the bars afterwards are 90% those dudes floating around the 3 girls who showed up who will surely be scared off and never show up again

MGS V was a very busywork kind of game. Better than Death Stranding’s busywork, but still a busywork game that it’s easy for someone to never finish. I never got to see the “end” of the game myself. I got bored with it, and when I found out the game was unfinished, I didn’t have a desire to continue.

That whole thread is interesting. First off the husband completely lied about their neighbors burning their house down and killing their 3 dogs. They did that on their own after a barbecue. You would think that little lie would put into question the entirety of the husbands statement, but nope, Era has doubled and tripled down on believing it instead. Retards there also cannot read what the police have stated, instead choosing to read that the cops have 100% already ruled out that the killing had to do with their sexual orientation.

This applies to many open world games. MGSV, for being several times longer than any other MGS game, has fewer memorable moments. Argument of emergent gameplay creating unique moments. Sure. I guess. But then it’s that for dozens of hours. After a while you’ve optimized your approach to every encounter, every base, and you’re going through the motions. It needed more missions where you get high from torching weed crops and skrillex plays.
