Tonight was also a huge fuck you to AIPAC and the Israeli lobby. We've been telling you how the base feels about Israel / Palestine and the genocide but the establishment did not listen. Theyre still not listening regarding the Iran war. Zohran's opposition made this a referendum on Israel and New Yorkers resoundingly told them to fuck off.

Time to primary Torres and Goldman. Schumer and Jeffries too.

ever since Bernie, I've seen progressives say the path to victory isn't to win centrist voters but to activate non-voters into voters, but— and this is probably recency bias — Mamdani might be the first to really do it on a large scale.

Actually, it kinda seems like how Obama won in 2008: a grassroots-powered machine that was way more energized and broad-based than the establishment's decaying machine. (And Cuomo not going for cross endorsements, a sign he didn't really understand how RCV works, is reminiscent of the Clinton campaign thinking Dem state primaries were winner-take-all for delegates instead of proportionally allotted.)

Different state, but same for the likes of Pelosi and Ro Khanna. The latter really wants to welcome Muskrat back with open arms. It's baffling established Dems would rather fuck up progressive movements rather than stand up to Trump and fascism. It's always because of money. They are in for a rude awakening when primaries come next year; not gonna be an easy task, but this primary win makes me hopeful.

He got less than 500K votes and less than 45% of the vote in a city with 8.5 million people that's D+50. Against a guy who resigned in disgrace from the governorship.

i really hope the democratic party fully supports the winner of their primary now. if centrists start pushing third party candidates instead, they can forget left wing support when centrists are nominated in the future. but i hope they're not that stupid

In late April, Brooklyn Democrats hosted a forum where they invited qualified candidates on the ballot to present, but they excluded Paperboy Prince from the invitation. Prince crashed the event wearing clown makeup and denounced the process which left them out. Some in the crowd asked for them to be ejected, and others advocated for them to be able to speak. They would proceed to lose badly, barely winning 0.1% of the nomination vote as Zohran Mamdani made history.

He has a pretty good chance of winning, but it's not the guarantee they're calling it in that thread because he's running against two Democrats who are running as Independents including the incumbent. He doesn't have to win a majority because the opposition is split across three candidates. It's quite plausible he wins something like 45-30-15-10 in the general. The votes for him and the third place candidate are potentially enough to win the general no matter what since nobody turns out in NYC elections. Bloomberg didn't even get 600K votes in 2009.
