Data is important for a shared frame of reference. It helps make objective judgements. But whether those judgements matter is complicated and determined by individuals. If somebody argues to you that rich people will be better off under a specific economic plan, it doesn't matter if they're provably correct if that's not an outcome you care about. You won't be convinced no matter how "correct" their arguement is because it's made on a basis that's fundamentally not relevant to you. People can acknowledge the low response time exists and disagree that it's actually a problem, or one worth addressing even if it is. People are judging the screen on the basis of how it affects their personal experience, so whether those problems are real and provable has no bearing on their judgement if it’s not affecting the criteria by which they judge. To them it’s real, it just isn’t a problem and doesn’t matter because they don’t notice it, and that’s the only metric they care about. If someone had super good magical eyes and could see microbes on paintings, for them a painting being too covered in bacteria would be a huge problem, but for you it doesn’t matter. They could objectively measure the number of microbes on different paintings and prove that your favorite is objectively more covered, but since you can’t see them that won’t matter to your viewing experience. It being real and being a problem are distinct things. One is objective, the other isn’t

The point isn't that we can't discuss this, just that people need to stop asserting their opinions and criteria as objective fact. If you say the slow screen bothers you and someone else says it doesn't bother them, they aren't accusing you of lying nor are they saying your problem isn't real. It's just not a problem for them. Now personally I think it's better to care about other people's problems, and I'd be happy if it was improved for the people who care, but I'm not going to change my habits for something I don't care about in something as unimportant as a game console screen. The issue these threads come into is a person complains, someone else says it doesn't bother them, and then the first person starts assuming the other person is denying their reality when the reality is they just don't give a shit. If it bothers you and you want to complain feel free to do so, but stop being upset when other people disagree. People don't care that the screen bothers you, they care that you're acting like they're wrong for not caring about the things you do. No matter how much you say "I don't care if other people enjoy a bad screen", the issue is that by saying it's bad when that isn't their experience you're inherently implying you know better than them and think you have better taste or more correct standards. The fact is you're saying they're taste is worse than yours whether you mean to or not and people don't like that. They don’t see something that doesn’t impact their experience as a fault. The fact that it’s objectively real doesn’t matter. This isn’t them liking something in spite of faults, it’s that what you see as a fault and what they do is fundamentally different in the first place. To one person pineapple on a pizza is a fault while to another it’s a plus and to a third they don’t care either way. One person might like BotW but wish it had better enemy variety so they like it in spite of faults, but to another person they were more than happy with enemy variety so they don’t see it as a fault to begin with. And the third is someone who dislikes the game because of the enemy variety. The number of distinct enemies is an objective fact, but the conclusions and perspective on this fact are completely different for each of these three people.

Some Ted The Serial Killer origin lore -

I remember as a kid I didn't really have a good frame of reference for what constituted rich vs. poor. Initially when I was REALLY little I thought anybody who had a pool was super rich. Then I realized very quickly that a lot of poorer families in my town had pools. And then my family moved to one of the most expensive neighborhoods (at the time) in town and then it was like "oh, wait, are we the rich kids?"

What complicated things further was that my family was notorious for never buying me shit I asked for outside of Christmas and birthdays, and making me save my own money to buy anything outside of those very specific scenarios, so I never really felt rich, even though we were pretty well-off. The only thing my mom would buy me without question was books. Toys, video games, etc were all "save up your allowance for it or wait for Christmas or your birthday" kinds of things. So I often felt like I was "behind the curve" compared to my peers in the "having cool shit" department.

By comparison, some of the poorer families I knew were a lot more open with buying their kids flashy presents like Power Wheels cars and shit. Looking back on it in retrospect, I have to imagine the parents busted their ass for gifts like that so their kids wouldn't feel like they couldn't interact with their peers because they didn't have the cool stuff everybody was talking about.

TLDR

Ted's rich parents wouldn't buy him toys, only shitty books. Meanwhile all the poor kids parents bought them every toy they wanted.
