I just watched S1 a month or so ago and I'm not sure what to make of it. My biggest feeling was "what's the point of this story?" Like what message was I supposed to get from it? Everyone got flatlined except the chick who did her dream on a corpo sponsored tour.

But the top staff get paid. They're the one(s) who set the tone for all the volunteers. Rotating the volunteers does nothing if the leadership never changes, and people paid to do a job aren't going to willingly rotate out.

Unpopular opinion: They can and should charge more. 80 dollars and 90 euros first day. 100 for early access.

Always prefer companies go that route over microtransactions.

If it's too expensive, you can always wait for it to hit a sale.

I understand what you mean and I agree with you, I'd just rather blame the companies rather than the workers themselves.

Notice the rhetorical move, the person makes a claim then immediately shifts what the claim applies to. Capitalism is the only system with any form of consent, (in theory) you don't have to buy what you don't want. In feudalism you have permanent duties because of the class you're born into. In socialism you either do as you're told by the single monopoly or you're a traitor who is punished. But by appealing to the reality that if you don't do anything you can't live, something true under any system, the other two systems somehow get exempted and reality is blamed entirely on capitalism as if swapping to the others resolves the problem. As if the "crime" true to reality applies only to a specific set of rules. By abstracting the complaint to a "system" they can pretend it's possible to get things for free rather than deal with the fact that if you don't pay for something, someone is working for free.

Even though, again, capitalism is the only system that allows you to not actually do labor because you own your capital and can receive passive income from it by lending it to others. In any other system if you don't work your only hope is that you can somehow not be found out while exploiting the system. Something that's infinitely easier in places like the United States as can be shown simply by the amount of people doing it. And their last refuge they destroyed because capitalist systems, including the United States, are the ones with the largest welfare states open to all creating that condition.

Scandinavian countries aren't less capitalist, they may be more capitalist than the English diaspora in certain respects but they have a larger welfare state and mandated purchases. Many Americans simply cannot grasp how high sales taxes are in the European states. American income taxes actually are more progressive but the rates are lower across the board. California has a sales tax of 7.25%, Sweden's is 25% and applies to more things. That forum would throw a shit fit if Gavin Newsom boosted California's to that. Americans of all income levels don't pay as much taxes and they'd get upset if asked, that's why the state funds the world's largest welfare state through inflation. 

Trump and the GOP's not spending any less, they're just upset about what the priorities are, but they've already written off their alternative (electing Democrats, like Biden who spent more and continued most things just because they were the status quo) so they have to convince themselves that destroying everything and starting from scratch is the only option. Which, I have to say, really sounds like emotional labor to me. Not to mention an extended period of "work or die" like after every totalitarian revolution.

Maybe its misguided, but I remain hopeful that the reason for the delay is that the staff are seriously considering and discussing what has happened and that we'll eventually get a measured, reasonable reassessment and apology from them, alongside a reversal of the unjustifiable bans in the DK thread and that absurd ban/threadban from this thread.

If that's the case, it would be nice for someone from staff to at least post a holding "we're working on it" message in the meantime.
