A lot of liberal people also get worked up about trans women in sports.

You can say it doesn't matter if they're not winning, but heads will roll when / if a transgender woman actually gets any modicum of success. They will never be allowed to win, even if they are allowed to compete. It's a real lightning rod for a large swathe of the country.

What the DoE and Trump admin are doing to UPenn is clearly beyond that, its petty retribution, but the point remains.

I know a trans girl who is a little uneasy about it. She ran cross country in high school before coming out in college, but she's said she wasn't sure she would feel right racing against the other girls. She does club soccer in Brooklyn in an all female league now and loves it, but that's a team sport in a non competitive environment.

And even then, she's at least 6 inches taller than most of her teammates. She accidentally elbowed an opponent in the head and not only received a massive bruise but felt absolutely terrible about it.

They're using sports as an excuse to come for everything in regards to trans rights and access to medical care. If the country were a little more sane, I'd say drop the sports thing to save the rest, but that wouldn't matter in any case

I'm not sure who these anecdotes are supposed to be for, I'm certain some cis girls into sport have been taller, accidentally elbowed and hurt a teammate and felt bad about it. The difference is when a trans girl does it you start getting people like yourself using it as a preface for the idea we should, kinda, maybe… remove their ability to participate in sports at all.

This isn't just true for sports. I mean beyond the plain absurdity of trans women facing bans from things like chess, trans women can't succeed anywhere without it being questioned. Whether it's new heights in a professional field or winning a women's award, it is always debated. We have taken the space of a real woman. We don't get successes, we get stolen opportunities.

You can't just neatly remove sport from this and expect anything to resolve because it's all rooted in the firm denial of us being women. Sports is just an easy vector to exploit this as it appeals to notions of violence or harm against women and girls. Bathroom bans run on the same, which are also effective. Invoking these things before floating the idea we maybe just ban trans women and girls from sports isn't combatting transphobia, it's barely distinguishable from it.

I happened to be there with family today, and his huge-ass security detail + park staff had to move us all to the side and and make us wait while he and his group went by. Also caused multiple delays and closures.

I gave him a nice, loud, "fuck you, JD" as he went by. A Disney park staff guy wasn't too happy about that and had the fucking gall to lecture me that "Disneyland welcomes everyone." Oh how I wanted to talk back but I was clearly on thin ice already and didn't really feel like getting kicked out over that.

I mean, I guess that's true. But it's also based on the common sense that taking hormones wont make you 100% a woman in every way and form. That just doesn't make sense, and you keep ignoring any study that shows this and instead rather focus on the study that blames all the physical differences between men and women in sports on "social factors"
And I guess that's in turn why Kyuuji and the rest fight so hard about this, because it would be admitting that there are differences between women and trans women

I was biking to the grocery store, and a lady in possibly her early 40's was walking with her 12-14 year old son and their rottweiler. They took up the entire road so I slowed down and was going at their pace behind them until the kid saw me and stepped to the side and let me pass. Then on the way back from the grocery store the same thing happened, where they had stopped completely on the road, with the woman and the dog doing something with the bush next to the road because the dog had dropped a chewing toy. She was facing my left, so she must've seen me in her peripheral vision. I slowed down and basically stopped until the kid saw me, backed off to the side of the road and let me pass. I slowly passed them.

Then about 30 meters down the road I stopped by the garbage containers to dispose some of the cardboard boxes from the stuff I had just picked up from the post office. As I was standing there she comes up to me, asks "do you have a bell for your bike?"

I get confused and reply "uh, bell? No". Mine broke a while back when I forgot to remove it when doing some repairs and had the bike upside down. Her eyes lit up with furious anger and goes "Next time I see you, you better fucking have a bell. It's legally required to have one, and a helmet! If I see you another time without them, I'll send my fucking dog on you".

I don't like escalating, so I just said "Ok" and let her walk on. The son looked quite dead inside, like he's seen this type of shit before and just wanted to get home.

Apparently it's legally required in Sweden to have a bell on your bike, which I didn't know (I've ordered one now), but I know for a fact there's no requirement or law for people above 15 to wear a helmet.

She must live in this suburb I'm in, but I've never seen her before, and I would prefer to not get a rottweiler sicced on me.

I thought if I should report it to the police to just have it on record, but since I can't say anything but describe her, I'm not sure if it's worth it. I called the police, but the queue was 50 minutes, and I also didn't want them to go "you don't have a bell? We've now issued a fine and sent it to you"

Update: I called the police after being in a queue for two hours. I explained that I had biked without a helmet or bell on a "walking road" (which is about three meters to the side of the road for cars). To put it into perspective, while you as a bicyclist in Sweden have to either bike on the road for cars, or on the walking roads where there are designated lanes for bikes, when you're in less densely populated suburbs like the one I live in, no one cares where you bike. Everyone bikes on the walking road.

The police officer looked up the rules, and was like "I mean, yeah you should have a bell, you don't need to wear a helmet because you're an adult, and biking on the walking road, it is what it is, especially if you're not in the city where there's tons of traffic. Not much to get bothered by". She advised me to get a bell, which I told her I had done, but basically told me "she was in the wrong, but we can't do anything unless we know who she is. If you see her again and she's threatening you, call 911. She can't file a report on you because she has no idea who you are, and no police officer is going to care about you biking on the walking road without a bell."

Kind of considering posting in the suburb's Facebook group that there's a dangerous woman, threatening people with her Rottweiler to see if I can stir something up, but at the end of the day it's probably better and smarter to just carry on.

I didn't where to post this so I've made a private thread because I didn't want to ruin the vibes of the Trans ERA thread and it didn't feel right to post this in the Rowling thread.

This is something that's been bothering me more and more in the past few months online and offline, from Reddit, Bluesky, conversation with people in offline and including on ERA. I'm getting increasingly worried trans allies are more and more going to sell trans people out for themselves as things get worse and worse in the US and UK.

Some of this from what I've seen comes from people becoming more defeated, accepting and desensitizied by the atrocities. Defeatism seems to becoming the norm in so many places.

But I've also seen so much talk about leftists and groups like trans people should accept compromises, be pragmatic and make sacrifices, even from family members.

I've been trying to hold my lips because I've just been too frustrated and tired to say this; but I can't feel but cynical that the talk ultimately translates to trans people and other groups like Arabs to shut up, vote against their interests and to be happy there being thrown under the bus. That it's okay to shame and bully us to vote against our own interests for the "Greater good" and we "support facism" if we refuse to vote for MPs and parties like Labour that push or indifferent to transphobic; all under the "promise" They'll support us after the next election/US mid-terms, or in the future... Maybe.

And I don't trust that type of talk. I will never forget after months of liberals and people online saying they'll support trans people to get trans people to vote for Biden, so many were ready to stab us in the back when Manchin tried to add an anti-trans amendment to be the US Covid Bill back in 2020; telling us to shut up and accept it for the "Greater good". I don't trust people won't stab us in the back, they expect us to sacrifice our rights and existence for their benefits and give us nothing but empty promises in return.

And sorry, no. I refuse to be bullied, I refuse to be shamed and to sacrifice myself for people who have not shown themselves to be trustworthy, truly care for trans people or give me nothing but empty promises. If you're willing to sacrifice trans rights, you aren't my ally. I refused to vote for Labour last election despite pressure to by cis people and I'm so glad I didn't; I will NEVER vote for a party that supports transphobia, if that means not voting then so be it.

I just can't but feel worried allies are more and more turning their backs on us.
