Here's how you know these people aren't smart. That video actually debunks the idea that eugenics is fascist. The history it gives of eugenics, at least from the transcript, is fine enough, it's like a Wikipedia skim, but it clearly establishes that eugenics predates fascism by decades. It also hints at, but doesn't know so doesn't say, the fact that eugenics was widely accepted science and considered progressive reform to carry out so was widely adopted in the West especially by all the leading lights of the progressive era that are endlessly praised. It even says that the Nazis lifted eugenics from elsewhere, which duh, it was considered the pinnacle of science at the time and the Nazi's FUCKING LOVED SCIENCE like that old meme a little too much.

But probably not a single viewer of that video actually connected the dots to see she disproved it being fascist. In part because there's no actual argument, she just says a bunch of facts and dates without any context and leaves you to connect the dots yourself, which you'll do to support your pre-existing narrative if you aren't a skeptical person. Hence, all the comments talking about her exposing "a history we weren't taught" about fascism. She then as the video goes on does the same shotgun blast approach to Trump and of course you'll connect the dots that Trump is Hitler and is currently exterminating millions even as she never actually makes any argument at all that this is the case, never even herself saying it outright. That's the tell, the lack of self-confidence in her own "argument" because she doesn't exactly understand it herself.

The irony, of course, being that this is Trump and MAGA's own form of "argumentation" on nearly every topic too.

John Dewey, Jane Addams, G. Stanley Hall, every politician of the era, et al, you pretty much cannot name a single Progressive Era reformer who wasn't one. It was pretty much like the trans science that all the Right Side of History believed and endorsed. They were almost all also anti-immigration too, the wrong stock was immigrating and would corrupt the perfect society they were building. The reason for the creation of the minimum wage was "eugenicist" to keep the undesired out of the labor pool so they'd die off after being sterilized for being unemployed.

It's like when they talk about how Nazis love dogwhistles and secret messages hiding everything. No, this stuff was right out in the open and people were proud to boast of their support for it. You can find popular tomes, newspapers, etc. advocating all this shit. The Right Side of History were the ones advocating socialism, fascism, eugenics, etc. The planned society was supposed to be the proper future, not capitalism which was supposed to be in its "late stage" and dying out, not liberalism which was corrupting morally and standing in the way of progress. 

edit: The way Nepenthe and most of that forum talks about race is straight out of the "race scientists" of the late 19th Century/Progressive Era that was used as the support for racist eugenics. Yet for some reason we're supposed to ignore that and focus on the fact that Sydney Sweeney has blue eyes and so said "blue eyes" because they're fucking simpletons. (That the Right Side of History would have wanted sterilized, but most of them do that voluntarily now.)

I don't comment on anything ever, but here we are. My partner is a store manager at American Eagle and has only stuck with the company because of how generally progressive they are. When he saw the ad, he was truly devastated. I can't believe that a company that doubled down on DEI earlier this year did this. I'm no shill for any brand or corperation, but geez I thought Eagle was better than this.

A saying can be something that was normally a general saying ("you have good genetics"), and become something fucked up when it's twisted at a moment in time. Which is what this is.

A blonde, blue-eyed, sexualized cis white woman delivering a monologue about "good jeans" carries a lot of historical context with it. And very little of it good.

It's really this for me. Like, I'm not outraged (mainly because that would require having expectations of better and I don't anymore), but this ad has the stink that it does because of the historical context of all the elements put together.

Granted, this forum largely gave Liam Neeson a pass so I don't know why I expected anything even more subtle than that not be dismissed. Just another day.
