As you guys all know, ResetEra, and the 'Era incels are trying to control what women wear' thread had a collective meltdown over Crimson Viper's titties and, especially, the new Tekken character 'Mary Zo'.

The Mary Zo reveal had a lot of people enraged about how she doesn't look African, how it's cultural appropriation, how she's offensive because she's got yummy boobs, dozens of insults hurled at Katsuhiro Harada etc, etc... with this dumb-fucks' post being the icing on the shit-cake:

First we need to be better about forgiving people and giving them grace when they self reflect and improve on themselves.

If you're going to speak about empathy it goes both ways, maybe avoid language like "should" here.

People affected by the shit he did have the right to not give him leeway. There is no "should" here, it is 100% understandable why someone might not want to and if you have empathy for him you should have empathy for these people too. As I said, it goes both ways.

That's a lot closer to revenge than empathy or growth, so I guess it depends on the angle you're going for. Obviously if you were specifically impacted by a person, it's perfectly reasonable to have resentment and to hold onto it, but for the idea of bettering humanity, I'd say allowing people to grow into better people rather than trying to force them to stay bad is the wiser course of action.

Should maybe a strong word in that instance, but it is certainly the wiser approach when speaking generally I'd say, which I assume is what they meant.

My point is simply that it is 100% understandable that some people would not want to give leeway in a situation like this and pontificating about the "wiser path" isn't necessary in response to that idea.

It is subject to the same relational affects by capitalism and colonialism that everything else in society is, so I'm not impressed or delighted by the prospect of a nuclear reactor on the moon when my people are starving and being genocided. Telling me "but #science" or "but you use a phone" doesn't actually address my concerns.
