The Democrats are not compromising on their morals when they do this because they have no consistent moral base to begin with beyond the upholding of capitalism, which in turn allows you very easily promote the human rights for the acceptable groups while going full steam ahead on Nazism for the groups who are already colonized and thus their oppression is actually paramount to the agenda of capitalism to begin with. They're not actually being hypocritical by, like, standing beside Ukraine while saying Gazans can fuck off, in the same way Republicans are not actually being hypocritical when they praise cops for murdering Black people but despise the cops who stood up to the J6 nutsos. There are, instead, consistent political, cultural, and economic motivators underscoring these ostensibly contradictory positions which are not analyzed because people are too focused on pointing out the hypocrisy of the superficial cultural positions to take notice.

Through our descriptive analysis of this sub-network, we argue that such performative infighting provides an extremist milieu with an increased marketing reach, resilience to moderation, and the ability to more clearly define in-groups and out-groups. In other words, this cluster of activity has indicators of collective mobilization and radicalization.
