I really wish everyone would take a look at what is happening in the UK.

People held their noses and voted for the 'good' transphobes and where are they? Trans people are only one of the groups that have seen their rights attacked and stripped away. Retirees peacefully protesting fascistic government moves are being arrested. The party's polling has gone completely off a cliff and the far right party has seen it's support *swell*.

And trans people... well, they're facing laws discriminating them on a level that the federal government here wishes it could pass. Now is that what Labour were promising years before the election? Ah... no. As always, it's the exact opposite. Trans rights creates belief-based status conflicts and enshrines it into law. Trans rights actively undermines every component of a liberal, democratic and pluralistic society. It's the wielding of the state to impose a religious belief on the populace. Simple assertion becomes attempted material reality by the use of force. It creates an endless splintering of hostile groups which can only win by bringing down others. It's actively hostile to honest communication and promotes a panopticon surveillance mentality where every interaction is policed by unseen forces.

Aside from the massive harm it does to vulnerable people and the virulent misogyny underlying its belief system, this is why it's so dangerous and must be opposed rhetorically whenever possible.

I don't think I've ever been so hot and cold on in recent memory. Lots if things I liked about it, other parts of it fell totally flat for me. Especially the reveal of what's going on which I found especially lame.

Thematically I like what it was doing a lot

A community full of selfish and distrustful people, too busy inflicting small cruelties on each other to notice the real evil taking over their community until it's too late.

An evil that takes advantage of the social norms and meager politeness and niceties that we afford each other to worm its way in, literally weaponizing that cruelty to its own ends. It's an interesting thing to explore, especially in today's political climate and American tribalism in general.

But I don't know if it entirely comes together. So many excellent spooky and "oh shit" moments, and a lot of stuff that didn't really work.

Still a good movie, very well made, and Resident Evil is in good hands with Cregger, but Barbarian was better overall.
