when I first played it I had a hard time getting over the cobra unit and how shallow and uninteresting they were, nothing could compare to MGS1's boss cast

MGS1 shows them conspiring thoughtfully as a group multiple times, you beat ocelot but he's still around throughout the game, you fight raven twice, you fight wolf twice, octopus is a really interesting plot point and resolution, and mantis is super memorable, so all the characters are given ample opportunity to shine and feel like real people who are loyal to each other

in MGS3 they're all one and done, and all insane

I read it to mean that many believers think faith isn’t about rational coherence, but an unknowable Will of God, which in itself makes faith arational, so outside the scope of reason (rather than 'irrational' or against reason), so a rational critique of 'free will' and what 'free will' means for Christian salvation shouldn't move someone who treats faith as exempt from rational standards.  But it's somehow part of all of it.
