I say this as someone who stopped bothering after dying (again) to the bell beast. I had a lot of issues with the first game, but it never locked fast travel behind a ridiculous boss fight.

As someone who has ADHD that interfered with my childhood development and has manifested into pretty nasty anxiety in adulthood, I wouldn’t want anyone to deal with this shit. Childhood was super difficult for me and it should have been fun. I literally drove my dad into deep depression as an adolescent and had to work twice as had to dig myself out of the childhood hole I dug as I entered adulthood. How self centered do you have to be to make this all about yourself and your identity.

I think it's absolutely understandalbe why so many people - especially those who belong to affected groups - are on edge when it comes to situations like this.

It's often a good idea to wait for more info before making a judgement, yes, but we should also extend our understanding to people who feel beaten down by the kinds of mindsets that the quote seemed to be encapsulating.

The way the quote is presented wasn't great, I can fully understand someone reading that and racting to it negatively especially in the current climate.

Speaking of introspection, many gamers would rather defend their favorite entertainment than consider why people react badly to a seemingly unironic use of the term "feminist agenda" that needed clarification given how dismissive and hostile the gaming community is towards anything even vaguely progressive, to the point where anything and anyone critical is attacked. Might be something to think about.

The article's author has chosen to add context to a quote that was largely misinterpreted by many people. Given the current state of the gaming community alone, with all of the misogyny and sexism and hate campaigns motivated by people claiming that a feminist agenda exists and is maintained, why wouldn't people react badly to a statement seemingly reassuring readers that there's "no feminist agenda" from the game's director? Why isn't this valid?

Statements like this, even if unintentional or poorly worded, mean a lot more to some of us than trying to win an argument on a forum or moral superiority. For those of us targeted by hate campaigns, it's even more hostility and attacks on top of what we get for even playing games and all of the people accusing us of overreacting. Plus, many of the people driving hate campaigns or attacking anything progressive are waiting on any kind of signal from devs that they agree so they can ramp up their attacks. We don't really have the luxury of pearl-clutching or faking moral stances when we can't even play video games in peace.
