The thing that the right is not much better, as Trump and Elon liked to remind us.  

The great mistake is treating these as if they aren't factions of the same group just because they publicly fight with each other constantly. Call them the Left or call them the Right, but we should stop letting them have the opposed pole be the exact same as them. The opposed pole should be those who reject at least half of it, not people who agree completely but have a different emphasis and focus on who should be their victims.

That's my opinion about who's to blame: us who know better but adopt their propaganda because it's easy.
