No is not.  I had the console as a child, my dude. The reputation is deserved.

It's a pretty interesting console and a really fun system to own in modern times.
Everyone who comes over to my place and plays it thinks that it's really cool, but probably a novelty.

Pretty bad takes, overall, though I certainly couldn't have justified the purchase back upon release.

Galactic Pinball, Vertical Force, Insmouth No Yakata, 3D Tetris, V-Tetris, Red Alarm, Teleroboxer, Mario Clash, and depending on how much you like Golf, the game Golf are certainly all worth more than that. Oh, plus Jack Bros and Wario World.
With only 19 games available, that's not terrible. And the other games are generally not awful...like, Space Squash is fine. Panic Bomber is good. I'm sure Space Invaders is also fine, if you like Space Invaders.

Also, the Virtual Boy display is SUPER sharp for 1994. It's a pixel perfect, super clean image, certainly the sharpest home console image that would be around for some years.
Does it also weird out your eyes after you stop using it? Yes, but it lasts for less than 5 seconds.

The virtual boy doesn't even have the 3D novelty factor anymore since we have VR headsets which present a million times more immersive 3D experience. 

If nintendies want to spend 100$ on it because they're collectors or whatever, fine. Acting like they're about to experience an amazing console is ridiculous though

I’m haggy enough to remember the Virtual Boy in its day and even then there was no novelty. It was notable among my buddies and classmates for having crazy deep discounts. It became the stock gift at birthdays.

And I can comfortably say we had no standards. We’d regularly play those Tiger LCD handhelds. But nobody wanted to play the Virtual Boy.
