So he's pretty much apolitical. The right might say he's liberal because of his relationship with the roommate but the left could say he's also a gun nut which can be framed as right wing so I think his politics are a wash and not really a factor at all.

But being a gun-nut isn't necessarily right-wing, especially since he's not the right-wing gun nut, his family is and he just grew up in that and so has the familiarity that comes from it.
