Would the mainstream media have covered Charlie Kirk’s assassination the same way?

I partially disagree in this part, given the violent nature of his murder and his reach even before Trump got elected. The big difference is probably how uncritical the mass media has been on how Kirk was as a person, but I also think that many are rationalizing as “don’t speak ill of the dead” or identify themselves as political pundits, not necessarily on the same side but “playing the game”.

Maybe at this point mainstream media in the US is an unsalvageable mess.  You didn’t see right wing media sanitizing pelosi after her husband was attacked.  One side says whatever it wants with no consequences and the other walks on eggshells to be as milquetoast as possible.  It’s pathetic.

They were making fun of Paul Pelosi for being in his underwear at 2AM and made up a conspiracy/meme about the assailant being Paul’s gay lover. iirc Charlie Kirk even called for “patriots” to bail out the assailant, they were very much sanitizing political violence on the family of an elected official in their own twisted way. Politics is just memes/jokes to them until somebody they like gets hurt then it must be taken with utmost seriousness and respect.

It would mean a lot for rightwing media and their elected officials to come to the table on disavowing political violence (including stuff on their end) instead of twisting themselves into pretzels to justify it with conspiracies and calling for civil war every time on of them stubs their toe. All I’m personally asking for is for my president Donny Tee to call off his dogs and say something along lines of “I will be a president for all Americans. It’s time to turn down the temperature and cut out the hatred for our fellow Americans just because we politically disagree with them or they didn’t vote for me.”

The thing with Trump is that he operates like a (really stupid) mafia boss. He just “suggests”, he doesn’t necessarily order this stuff.

Corporations and nations know that they need to lick his balls and maybe he will actually pay attention to them long enough to do a favor (or his actual job, funny enough). The UK needed to treat him like a king just to him to acknowledge that Russia has no reason for a cease fire.

Modern Disney probably just doesn’t want to antagonize the government after the Desantis fiasco, and this was a good excuse to be in good graces and plan what to do Kimmel… just backfired horrible because a lot people are also not thrilled in making Charlie Kirk a martyr for MAGA.

So I just dropped off my dog at the groomer for a bath. Its a Clinic that also provides veterinary care. As I was walking out I see a couple were walking their dog along the sidewalk heading towards the place is just left. A big beautiful happy dog. Tail wagging strutting around. It looked like some kind of wolfhound mix, but it had colors in its fur I had never seen before. Like brown, tan, Grey, and blonde all splashed together.





So without skipping a beat I say "That is a GORGEOUS dog."





They immediately break into tears. Like full on sobbing. I was shocked and didn't understand what had happened and THEN it clicked that they must be bringing the dog to be put down. I couldn't even find the right words. I just apologized as best I could and the woman kind of just waved her hand at me like "its okay. Its okay." I didn't know what else to say and got in my car to sit in shocked embarrassed silence. I thought about it the whole way home. They probably took forever to get the composure to go and do that and my dumb ass shattered it before they even got into the door. There was ZERO indication there was anything wrong with the dog. It was sniffing the bushes and waggling around like any normal dog does outside so there was no way i could have known but I still feel fucking awful.

The right has legit memoryhole every event of political violence except for the two attempts on Trump’s life and Kirk’s assassination. I was watching a clip of Greg Gutfield on Fox News where said something a long the lines of “we don’t care” when the topic of the Minnesotan lawmaker and her husband getting killed was brought up. They literally want their audience to view democrats as less than human, that’s how cooked the mainstream media environment is.
