From what I understand (I could be quite off base), we're primarily a service and financier economy. A shitload of the "value" that America "produces" is entirely speculative bullshit (aka, shit that rich people find cool.) So when investors start salivating over some brand new tech or industry or start-up, the value is based just in that- the potential or theoretical return that the industry could hold. This is bad because if investors get the return of these things wrong, which is always a non-zero chance, then the market tanks and takes the economy with it. There's nothing else really to prop this shit up because we hardly produce anything of tangible value. There aren't significant raw materials here compared to, like, Africa or South America, and besides, manufacturing and agriculture are for the poor/non-white countries. No one in America wants to work on an assembly line or on a farm. We want comfy bullshit jobs or our own businesses which are usually service-based.

If the United States produces hardly anything of value, has no raw materials and doesn't have people who will work on assembly lines or farms (apparently the 20th Century saw little economic development over the 19th) you wonder how the United States even drives the global economy and stole all the wealth from the Global South in the first place.

We should probably also note that historically "shit that rich people find cool" is the only reason we have any preserved and elaborate art or artists. Remember her lectures about showing proper respect for those things.

For all of us still in the work world, do you get weekend FOMO? Also, we can also use your days off if you work on the literal weekend.

I get this fierce. I feel like I have to maximize my weekends. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy my lazy weekends where I just rot at home. Binge a show. Get deep into an engrossing game. Did this recently with Silksong. But I can't do too many of those without feeling guilty.

I also live alone, so I do need to do my basic adult crap--deep clean, groceries, appointments (barber, etc). So it's a balance. I can't rot too much. Stuff unravels.

Thing is, as of the latest episode, nazis got involved in the story
Ever since this twist came out, some people pointed out that the dance choreography has the arms kinda looking like a swastika, as a small foreshadowing of the plot,

Don't get me wrong, there isn't any endorsement of hateful ideas in the show, in fact, there is a lot of nazi-killing in it...
