I know it's in no way a new thing, and the reputation is there for a reason, but it makes me sad that there's such an association between shipping and toxic behaviour. Same with the focus on being "legitimised" by the canon (which feels like a newer thing, but might just be my perception of things?). I feel like I see people build up the idea of their ship only having worth if it is canon, or if it becomes canon, when basically we're all just playing with dolls, and canon shouldn't have any more importance than you want it to. People shouldn't feel like they have to throw away their love for their ship just because it didn't "officially" happen at the end of the day.

Same, I mentioned in the OP but one of the ships I follow and see regularly is Aerith x Tifa, a ship that has 0% happening, but many wlw still love regardless, for me it's ultimately wish fulfilment and where on the wlw side, lesbian and wlw women can show off what they'd love to see, hope to see and what type of romances they'd want. Though of course, you should say never say never because as a child I would never have believed that Velma and Arcee would come out as lesbians and they have, in part because of fans eventually becoming creatives in those works (So still hoping one day Street Fighter's Cammy comes out as a lesbian).

One thing I have noticed despite not engaging in most online shipping discussion that choice-based games often end up creating more debate, frustration and toxicity, either fans fan warring on which romance is the best/more "canon" or if the games end up making one romance more "legitimate" then the others. We saw a bad case of this last year with Life is Strange which I felt ended being even more vitriolic because of how important the first game was for many wlw gamers (and I admit that one stung me a bit as well). I feel that's a bit of a result of how a lot of VG wlw romances are choice based and not fixed canon ones, especially in the AAA space where outside of characters like Ellie and Aloy, I'm genuinely struggling of wlw characters that are fully out there and not just implied (subtle or VERY heavily like Pearl and Marina; and recently with SF6 with Marisa and Manon) or optional choice romances in RPGs. It's why I think V x Caitlyn has became such an important thing for a lot of wlw people I feel.

That tree is unmistakably AI, textbook example that leaves absolutely no room for doubt. The next most obvious example is the robot. The knife (?) I could take it or leave it, because I'm not even sure what it is supposed to be, it does have some AI vibes to it though.

I've always heard that mass effect 1 is a good kotor-style RPG and then after that becomes a dumbed-down action game with fewer mechanics but still a good story, almost like the downgrades dragon age suffered

You probably mean well, but I know people with autistic kids - my brother included - who would find this extremely offensive.

As I'm sure you know, autism is a wide spectrum. I know that it can be debilitating and it can be a significant challenge for parents in certain cases, but I also know plenty of autistic people who make positive contributions to society. I know parents that wouldn't change a single thing about their autistic child, and parents that would.

What I was trying to get in my post is that I believe diversity of neurotypes is beneficial to a society. Neuro diverse people might offer solutions to problems that another group only containing one neurotype wouldn't come up with, and everyone in the more diverse group benefits from that solution no matter their neurotype.

It can be beneficial in a certain environment to being small or tall, evolutionarily speaking. If someone can reach higher fruits, or sneak into smaller spaces to retrieve resources, the whole community can benefit from that... but at a point being too small or too tall becomes a disability to that individual. If an environment is selecting for 'tall' you're going to get more individuals that are *too* tall than in an environment that doesn't. But if there's another community in the same environment who aren't likely to produce tall individuals, they're going to be out competed.

I apologize if any of this is coming over as too clinical or academic. I love a wide number of neurodiverse people who see their diversity as a net positive, and I agree with them. I recognize that many people don't feel that way too. But as to the question of how evolution drove us to where we are, I think nature does indeed select for diversity of neurotypes, even if that leads to some members of the community where the difference in how their brain works offers little to that community and is a challenge for that individual and their family.
