Basically, I make $300-400 a week at my current job.

But I have a lot of big expenses this week and it's not gonna leave me with much left.

Yeah, I want to make money to pay my bills, but I want to be able to live and enjoy my life too. Is that really too much to ask?!

This isn't actually sustainable, especially in perpetuity. How many "once in a lifetime" economic downturns have we had within our living memory? Our parents' living memory? How much war and genocide has been wrought specifically because of this system? How much underdevelopment of the Global South and the millions of deaths resulting simply from lack of access to a basic standard of living has happened because of this system? How many of us have died from its pollution and infrastructure failures? How many years do we actually have until we hit 4c degrees warming (it's probably shorter than what the media is reporting in order to not cause panic)? Capitalism, by design, isn't actually sustainable in terms of stability and health for the majority of humanity or even our ecological systems.

It's sustainable for the bourgeoisie though. They love what's happening right now.

As for whether or not Americans want this system, I wouldn't say for certain that's the case. For one, I don't think most Americans functionally know what capitalism means beyond "making money." But anecdotally, I don't encounter many people who, when I come along to explain what capitalism is in basic terms, go "Oh no, that's great; I love dedicated the majority of my life to making some lazy fuck rich off of my limited time and physical capabilities doing a bullshit job that means nothing." Just doesn't really happen.

Regardless, you will likely not see revolt in the US because we are a culture of pessimism and comfort. People, for one, lack belief in, knowledge of, and imagination for the existence of alternative economic models because all they know and are forced to know is their current reality. They might not like capitalism but don't even know where to begin searching for something better, in part because they're really pessimistic about their chances of success (for not entirely bad reasons; how many activists and revolutionaries have we killed again?) but also because they're easily distracted by all the trinkets and toys the US offers access to. I mean, you're on a gaming forum after all. The very identity of this place is dedicated to one of the biggest distractions and means of Western propagandization on the planet.

But even then, when you're overworked, poor, and have no real hope for a future, yeah, you're gonna play video games and scroll on social media to escape. That's all people want: an escape.
