ADL does fantastic work domesetically, particularly as it relates to incidents of bias, anti-extremism, and training. Unrelated to Israel. Nobody else is really doing work at the scale and scope that they are, and if you actually look at the work, it's incredibly inclusive and uplifting. SPLC comes close but does not have the depth or scope of ADL's Center on Extremism or ADL Education.

Israel has really poisoned the well for any large Jewish org that doesn't just wholely reject Zionism, and I don't agree with everything (or even most) of what they post on social these days, but the work is good, overwhelmingly. Especially the work Patel is cutting. They have literally stopped mass shootings targeting Jews and other minority populations thanks to this partnership.

Nuance is dead I guess. I hope that the org is able to move forward with leadership better reflecting what people here demand, because I do think change is needed, but I also think the work is really solid if you look at their resources targeting the US.

There is some really awful takes in this thread. As someone that has being listening to Simon Cardy on the IGN UK podcast for years, the idea that he has no media literacy is laughable. He's an incredibly switched on guy and knows what he is talking about. You only have to hear him talk about his favourite directors(or snacks) for a bit to get this. You may not agree with the article/video but let's not be stupid. He is nowhere near the Boss Baby tweet and anyone should feel silly for posting it in relation to his work.

It's been too long since we've had some Nepenthe so I needed a second helping.

This isn't actually sustainable, especially in perpetuity. How many "once in a lifetime" economic downturns have we had within our living memory? Our parents' living memory? How much war and genocide has been wrought specifically because of this system? How much underdevelopment of the Global South and the millions of deaths resulting simply from lack of access to a basic standard of living has happened because of this system? How many of us have died from its pollution and infrastructure failures?

Well, far far less than the alternative systems. As a wise non-binary once said: read a book.

How many years do we actually have until we hit 4c degrees warming (it's probably shorter than what the media is reporting in order to not cause panic)?

A perfect example of Era posters, especially the staff, insisting they're well informed while displaying basic ignorance. The UN IPCC consensus is something like 1-1.5C over the next century. And it's been dropping because CO2 output has been dropping massively in the West and even in China/India as wealth affords them more controls on it. But Nepenthe is spinning a media conspiracy covering up something the IPCC has never predicted that she believes is about to come about in the near term when every climate change prediction has always been over a century from the date of the prediction.

Nobody on the forum ever challenges her about this.

Capitalism, by design, isn't actually sustainable in terms of stability and health for the majority of humanity or even our ecological systems.

Actually it is. If you understood how prices work you'd know it has a perfect regulatory system built in and that most of the things you lament are involving efforts at destroying prices because people are mad about something and think enough violence can change prices for the better.

As scarcity of a resource increases, prices increase, decreasing usage of the resource in favor of alternatives. And vice versa when abundance occurs. You have literally lived through one of the biggest transitions of all time as the internet undercut the information and communication cost of nearly every system in existence. Look at your bills, or I guess your parents bills, and see how they will literally charge you more a month to have to send a paper bill. That's a cost they used to have to eat for everyone because there wasn't an alternative method and now there is and it costs almost nothing to do.

We know she doesn't understand prices or the system at all not just because of her fantasy utopia where everything is just available to take and never needs to be replaced, she also has a bunch of posts where she denies that scarcity exists. She outright believes that there is an infinite abundance of everything everywhere and the limitations are all deliberately imposed by capitalists so they can charge for it. It's an argument that you don't even have to demonstrate is wrong with examples because it inherently denies the existence of time. In her mind everything from food growing to Switches being assembled to techbros stealing art with prompts takes zero time at all, it just appears instantly.

It's funny because she works retail so she gets paid by the hour. It never enters her mind to ask or find out why the hourly wage system came about in the first place. She probably doesn't know people in manufacture used to get paid by the week and then the day and there's a reason this accounting kept getting finer. Service workers like retail and apprentices often weren't even really paid wages or were by the month. This was less than a century ago. She wants to go back further to times of greater labor for less reward but isn't interested in any of these changes and why.

All because she believes it means people will respect her and honor her for being an artist that produces no art. That they'll just work hard for her to laze around and amuse herself. Something she earnestly believes the Black Brazilians of Bahia would currently do for her just because they also have African roots.
