Kschreck is one of the few people on that forum actually reacting somewhat properly to the apocalyptic rhetoric. He just doesn't get that everybody else is faking it and so him taking it into the real world makes him seem strange. The lack of interest from everyone in the real world, your real social circle, is supposed to make you go "hmm, I wonder if that stuff might not be true." But instead he takes it as evidence the rhetoric is not only true, the problem is even bigger than he thought. Nobody on Era is going to puncture this bubble by admitting their online posturing isn't the same as their real world.

It's funny how they've had those threads about how dangerous AI bots are for therapy or whatever because it just repeats back what you want to hear and confirms your biases. They do it willingly and wish to ostracize anyone who doesn't do this. It's a situation where an affirming AI bot could be an improvement if only because the bot will be pulling from a greater source of material to inform its statements. Think about, for example, if Kschreck was serious about wanting to know ways to resist. Years ago, early on in the first term I had already been describing what was happening with US conservatives and Donald Trump as a fascist movement. And I had a former super close friend straight up gaslight me to my face about it all in personal, one-on-one conversations. I will distinctly never forget the bald face lying and uncomfortable squirming. And I'll never forget one of the distinct gaslighting phrases used in particular:

Will never forget the shit. Never ever. Forever seared into my brain. It was like a metaphorical self-immolation moment for this person and their reputation. Like I was Obi Wan Kenobi and I was watching Darth Vader burn alive on the lava shores of Mustafar.

In the years since, I've basically jettisoned myself from any former social connections, it's incredibly sad. Because the fascist lust truly runs deep, even when people try incredibly hard to maintain their facades. People just cannot help but let their masks slip; it's just too difficult to keep the hatred fully concealed.
