The pilot project, introduced by former minister for arts Catherine Martin, was launched in April 2022 to run for three years to support artists and creative arts workers with a €325-a-week payment to 2,000 eligible participants selected by lottery. Mr O’Donovan extended it to February 2026.

Raising the issue in the Dáil last week, Sinn Féin arts spokesman Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked if the 2,000 people currently on the scheme would continue to receive funding or if it would it involve a totally new cohort. He also asked if it would be extended to include more eligible artists.

A “comprehensive research programme” underpinned the pilot project. It found that recipients were “six percentage points more likely to have worked in the arts in the previous six months” than artists not participating.

$325 a week is $17,000 a year. For 2000 artists that's an expenditure of $34 million a year.

Honest question, really aimed at those who have children: Do you really think young kids should be learning about gender in school?? And just so you know I'm not advocating for this man's actions, Yes, I believe there are more than two/isn't necessarily assigned by what you were born as. I just don't have faith in their teaching of basic sex education as it is, as someone who had gone through it in a California public school. I think this particular item is too complicated of a topic and I wouldn't want the risk of a teacher interjecting their beliefs or begrudgingly teaching this in a tone of mockery. Had this gone through, I can also see this as just being a footnote in sex education when it should be a longer conversation. I think parents have to go the extra mile with this one and should NEVER just rely on school for sex education anyway.

'Parents should' yeah, they should. But reality has taught me that they can't be relied on either. A uniform curriculum devised based on our best understanding of child psychology is going to do far more good overall than leaving it to parents.

You're so fucked up that you're ruining your life because you can't get over the fact that men and women should be able to do whatever they want and still remain the men or women they are. I think people are forgetting that this is an indie film made with a much smaller budget, yet the team has clearly poured their heart into it. For an independent project, the production quality, acting, and visuals are really impressive.

Also, let's be real it's a fictional story. Just like no one should have had an issue with The Little Mermaid being portrayed by a Black actress, there shouldn't be an issue with the lead here being white. Representation works both ways, and storytelling should never be limited by unnecessary outrage.

If you don't like it, that's fine but at least appreciate the creativity and effort instead of tearing down people who are out here chasing their dreams.
