With as closely as that company is towards Trump, the using AI for storylines announcement, HHH becoming more involved with MAGA, and the latest report of them telling their wrestlers that they cannot work anywhere for a year if they leave the company, it's a little discouraging seeing users on this site supporting their actions because they like the company.
I know there's not much that can be done, but it seems incredibly hypocritical to have posters who are against MAGA but will happily talk about financially supporting a company closely tied to MAGA with a family member who is currently destroying our education system in the US.

WWE needs to be gone, just like Potter. But you're right, the constant calls for it to be dealt with continually fall on deaf ears.
DarkstarIV, post: 146548192, member: 40198 wrote:I will say regarding the WWE stuff that it would be better/more prudent to wait until another more reputable source backs Dave Meltzer (the guy who is claiming all of this stuff) up on his latest claims, because his track record when it comes to reporting literally anything WWE related over the past couple of years has been complete and utter dogshit (and Newsweek just reposted what Dave said with no corrobrating sources, they didn't confirm or deny the story, just literally reposted what he said, plus Newsweek itself is falling down the AI rabbit hole). Either someone reports the story before him and then he parrots it like he knew, or he makes something up and then never retracts it when he's proven wrong. He's a completely irresponsible journalist. It's pretty telling when he's using Grok to try and prove his point when it comes to ratings.
If Dave was correct about Trump showing up at SMNE or some of his other claims "from the White House", then it would have leaked out to the White House Press Corps before Dave. And the White House Press Corps loves covering every little mundane thing in Trump's orbit, because it's their actual job. Secret Service would also already be scouting the venue where it's being held, and local papers and the press corps would have picked up on it by now. It feels like Dave is getting fed a bunch of shit from a troll or group of trolls, because he never vets his sources.
If the mods are going to ban all WWE related discussion, then it seems only fitting that Apple, Amazon, etc all go as well, considering all of them are cozying up to Trump in big ways as well.
Hasney, post: 146549263, member: 371 wrote:There's a huge difference between cozying up to Trump and having active board members and family members actually serve in his administration, while using AI to write stories, bringing back one of the co-accused of a sex trafficking case and helping Saudi Arabia with their sportswashing schemes. Not that I would particularly care if any of the other companies mentioned were to vanish from discussion, but it's all been building up for years rather than just a single flashpoint. Agree with you on waiting on corroborating sources rather than just Meltzer though.
If there's a single thread for WWE, it doesn't really bother me personally, but I agree with some of the above posters that if this is confirmed, I do think we should be consistent with other banned properties to be allowed to have a single thread because WWE should join them on the same level.

Who is doing this? Quote one person doing this in the community thread (I'm not vouching for conversations elsewhere) and I'll eat crow.
None of us are in denial about what the company is and we constantly discuss how hard they make to appreciate these stories and wrestlers everytime. We acknowledge the good the workers we like do and the bad anyone says or does. There's no "well AEW does it". Your framing isn't even honest.
There's no sticking our head in the dirt. There's no denial. There's no dismissing people as haters because we're mad at the criticism. Though none of us care for the drivebys.
It's one of the few places on here that generally acknowledges all aspects of a company. The stuff we like, the stuff we hate, the shows we won't watch, the regular disappointments, when people give up.
I have a bigger issue with the people who openly crap on the company out here and the people who watch, but still check back and be like "did they make X champion yet?"
I literally do not get that anywhere else here because when you criticize a company people like normally, someone takes it as a personal attack and then it becomes an exercise in how their fandom and their fandom only is hated by Era. The WWE thread is legitimately my break from the console warring, bad faith arguments and people straight up lying in my face on other topics just because they're mad someone criticized their favorite company. And that I CAN quote.
Call it whataboutism, but I've literally seen you side step discussions about a game director being a racist to go on and praise them game. I don't think you can put that on anyone in the WWE thread.
Who's denying this? I get that it's easier to portray everyone in that thread as people constantly praising HHH, but we both know that's not the truth.
But sure defense force.
Who is they? Who is saying this?

Do we ban Amazon, Apple, Google and whatever AI stuff that is ripping off artists?
N64Controller, post: 146551831, member: 30013 wrote:My take on the WWE thread is that the staff has already done a great deal of work by containing the discussion in a singular thread, which is a big achievement considering it's the biggest wrestling company and the most mainstream one by a large margin. By and large the community has remained there and talking about it there, with the occasional overall discussions in other wrestling related threads where big things like the Cena retirement, what happens to AJ Styles, etc etc get acknowledged because other wrestlers from tons of companies will obviously mention it as well.
Personally, I don't think blanket banning any discussions, mentions, threads about something like WWE is possible without a huge amount of work from moderation, because it gets hard to handle everything in between. Wrestling fans of Era suddenly don't have any outlet to talk about some of the best wrestlers and good matches that take place. Inevitably some wrestlers will cross over discussions because wrestlers by and large support each other and will have each other in different videos, mention each other all the time, and a blanket ban would mean to have to sift through everything to make sure everything is fine.
It also means being kinda forced to blanket ban anything TKO related, including UFC which I'm guessing is still a big part of the discussion in the MMA community. And that's not trying to create a false parallel, if WWE is a problem then their parent company obviously is too, so everything they represent needs to be banned.
It's not really intellectual dishonesty, you're choosing to look at it this way. You seem to be imlying people who argue this are someone trying to go "I'm trying to improve society somewhat ooooh well you participate in society" like the meme but it ... is not? Obviously blanket banning discussions on certain subjects is something that can and should be discussed for moral reasons, but if you want to go down that route it's just a discussion we need to have, and it's just plainly not true that the WWE situation is all that worse than a lot of other situations.
EA now belongs to a group that is directly related to MAGA via Jared Kushner. It also directly belongs to MBS because it's financed by Saudi public funds.
SNK is pretty much owned by MBS outright
McDonalds directly supports Israel's genocide of Palestinians
EWC is the biggest esports event currently and directly owned by Saudi public funds.
It's not me trying to be "What about ..." here, I'm just saying blanket banning discussions surrounding TKO/WWE opens the staff to being questioned about why all of these things which have threads dedicated to them in all sorts of ways are not banned also. Now you can argue it's a discussion worth having, it's just hard for me to rationalize going specifically against the WWE thread for the reasons you and some others have outlined here without opening a broader discussion.
EDIT: Any mention of "the staff" is obviously me and my understanding of how everything works. I don't have any experience managing a forum the size of Era, but I've been mod on smaller forums before nad even at a small scale it's incredibly hard to pay attention to everything all the time.

Once that happens or the military shows up things will get a lot more hot like then. As for a general strike, since we work with a lot of unions ive been told many times that the biggest friction against that is that unions establish in their contracts periods of non-strike thay prevents them from being able to time a general strike and non-union workers aren't organized enough.

I'd say it has probably more to do with the fact that union workers are only 10% of workers and over half of all union workers work for the King.

For a long time after the author started showing her true colors I was firmly of the opinion that there was nothing wrong with continuing to enjoy the franchise. It was an important part of my childhood and I understand how significant it is to many people.

However that all went out the window last year when she started openly funding anti-trans propaganda and organization. She has not been quiet about what she's using her money for and any support for her franchise, monetary or no, is actively hurting trans people.

I understand that some people don't care about that. But there is no "separating the art from the artist" justification here. It's not like HP Lovecraft where its all public domain and the artist has been dead for 100 years anyway. By celebrating this franchise you are endorsing hate and harm against a marginalized minority. Stuffing your fingers in your ears going "la la la" doesn't change that.
Some day they'll actually have an example of the "openly" "not quiet" funding. 🤞

I would like others to have fun! Specifically, I'd like trans folks scrolling the subreddit for the very LGBT-positive MMO to have fun browsing and not see people celebrating a book written by someone who's actively trying to destroy their civil rights.

Normally my feeling on this stuff is live and let live if someone's running an event that I think is kinda bad. In this case, OP wrote a disclaimer about how they don't support the author's views, so it felt worthwhile to me to comment here. Not sure if you're aware, but she's a massive figureheaed for UK anti-trans folks, a country where sadly those groups have been getting a lot of shitty legislation passed, hate crimes have been rising, and human rights groups like Amnesty International have been shouting warnings about this all. I don't think people in other countries know that stuff necessarily so I think it's worth mentioning. Some people deserve some rain on their parade, even if a couple bystanders might miss out on some fun.

I’m right here with you. if people don’t support her views, they need to stop giving her money and attention. and yes, this is giving her franchise attention, however indirectly. this, as a queer person, doesn’t signal that anyone involved is a safe person for us, no matter how many disclaimers they put

honestly i don’t even know how people can enjoy any of it anymore, personally. it was a huge part of my childhood and adolescence and i can’t stand any of it anymore simply because it originated from her hateful mind.

Yeah. People can like what they like, lots of shitty people have a hand in lots of different media.

But for something like this where the author's actively campaigning to deny that trans people should be allowed to exist... I think it oughtta be like someone talking about what kind of porn they're into. It's not that I'm saying they're a bad person for liking the wizard books, but I don't wanna hear about it in public spaces, keep it in its own specific fandom niche.

Hi, I'm a trans person scrolling reddit and I was OVERJOYED to see this post. I've felt very alienated by people weaponizing my identity against me to guilt trip me into turning against a franchise that has been very important to me and my family. This entire situation has been incredibly depressing and I thought for once I could gather together with like minded people and have fun and enjoy this piece of my childhood that's been villainized for no fault of it's own. But yeah, I should have known that was far too hopeful.

Well good for you, you can. Someone is hosting this event, you get to attend and enjoy it.

I'm not sure this comment is in good faith but I'll take it at face value and assume it is. So: sorry you feel alienated by folks asking not to see this franchise promoted. It sucks that people within a community have incompatible reactions and preferences! And it sucks more that it makes us burn through limited energy feeling hurt and trying to talk that over with one another, when at the end of the day, other marginalised folks are only ever gonna have limited means to address that trauma & the root cause of it lies elsewhere.

For myself, there's enough trans folks in my life who very strongly do not wanna see mention of her work, even indirectly. I want that opinion to be voiced because I know it matters a lot to them.
It's basic human decency to police all spaces for others. Thank you for your service!
