I'm currently mid-upgrade on my PC, but plan to keep updating it like the Ship of Theseus until I can't do it any longer. 6 users liked this post: Gamegirl Nostalgia, Kim Wilde Homo, Nintex, who is ted danson?, Polident, Potato

That’s what my PS5 was and I can’t say I regret it. Late 2020 to 2022, there was lots of free time to play it. Got a lot of use out of it. But I think Astrobot is the only “PS5” game I cared for and not enough to buy a console for.
I’ll get a Switch 2 at some point. I’ll build a desktop in Japan if my laptop ever feels lacking. But for my purposes, I cannot picture a future where I get another Sony or Microsoft console. I don’t think I’ve ever used much less seen the Xbox 4. Nor the PS5 Pro that exists for some reason. 5 users liked this post: Gamegirl Nostalgia, Nintex, Potato, chronovore, who is ted danson?

GTA6 delayed too lmao. So price hikes just in time for the people buying for GTA.
6 years into the generation for GTA 6 What is even the point of this gen? 4 users liked this post: Gamegirl Nostalgia, Kim Wilde Homo, Polident, Nintex

Elder Scrolls 6 (Skyrim 2) was announced in 2018 and there’s a strong possibility it won’t release until 2027. Maybe it’s not the worst thing if they can learn from Starfield’s failings.

They probably had one team for sensitivity readings and one team to figure out what it means for Joanna Dark to be a woman. And what actually is a woman anyways?
Eight years later, they still don't know. 4 users liked this post: Gamegirl Nostalgia, Alpacx, Nintex, Potato

Cancelled Gamepass just in time to avoid the price hike.
It's 29.99 a month now up from 19.99. 2 users liked this post: Gamegirl Nostalgia, who is ted danson?

Watched a few reviews of the RoG Xbox Ally device. Seems expensive with a lot of windows bloat.
Then I go and look and it doesn't even play Xbox games you've bought on your Xbox library, only PC Xbox games? What's the point? I keep thinking about buying a PlayStation or Xbox to get back into sports games but the cost for a generation getting on its last legs is tough to justify. 1 user liked this post: Gamegirl Nostalgia

My biggest regret is forgetting to factor in the cost of playing online to my PS5 purchase. I stopped paying for PS+ early on and it's basically made online gaming useless except for GAAS stuff like Rocket League and Fortnite (which my kids play).
I impulse-bought Helldivers 2 for cheap without thinking about it and haven't even played it. I'm basically buying that kind of thing on PC from now on. 4 users liked this post: Gamegirl Nostalgia, who is ted danson?, D3RANG3D, Alpacx

MS could still win
Xbox Series 2 launching October 2026 $399 (make Nvidia pay with an AI deal to subsidise the hardware) Day 1 GTA 6 "next gen" and a good new Halo game Monster energy promotion But they wont because they have forgotten how to 2 users liked this post: Gamegirl Nostalgia, D3RANG3D

No, I think they had a good strategy with the 360.

How well they nailed that gen is demonstrated by how the red ring didn't kill them. Nobody even cares that they knew about it before launch and said "fuck it, we'll replace them with ones that are hopefully correct" also before knowing they had corrected it.
The 360 was slightly too early for the integrated mobile world (and AMD really, they were still ATi) but they understood better than Sony did where consoles needed to go, probably in part because the Xbox was literally seeing how much shit from a PC they could cram in a box just to get something out there. Kutugari was still on that "every machine will connect to every other machine and create a gigantic network" shit without anyone at Sony telling him no and nobody on his staff telling him the tech didn't exist for it so the Cell was never future proof. Even the Cell was a step back from the fact he already thought the PS2's would do it. Then that's the first thing they cut out to bring down the price. Meanwhile, it took how many years before any third-party developers bothered to learn how to use the SPU's. People forget how bad devs were at getting on the mulithreading train but us PC people knew how few ports used it. Also the exclusives, Crysis is only singlethreaded which is why it still runs like it does. That's why the remasters are built on the 360 versions. Microsoft, being a software company, knew their multithreading had to be pretty simple and near automatic at a basic level. Sony wasn't helped by the fact they went with nVIDIA when that company was putting out the FX garbage then trying to recover from it and Microsoft was basically handed the price/performance GPU of that era. Not that Microsoft was going to go with nVIDIA after what happened with the first Xbox. It was the next generation after the RSX where nVIDIA got their mojo back and put out the 8800GT all time king. Getting out a year early was big too. What if they had put out the Series S a year early and then the Series X when the PS5 launched? Xbox corporate culture is so weird because they do have these revolutionary concepts and then they always execute them in the most conservative way to where they're practically saying they're going to abandon it as soon as they have any issues. Remember when the Kinect was mandatory with the One and was like 75% of their presentations? Even though they never could articulate any reason for this other than "Xbox, watch ESPN." Thing was gone from the box in like six months.

That gen is great because all three consoles had high failure rates for almost the same exact reasons. I actually wonder if the Wii's have higher failure rates than the 360's but nobody left them on long enough for the heat to break them. The Wii's have a bonus because not only will the GPU's die but the bluetooth module will heat up and come off the motherboard.
Having become an expert at opening my Dreamcast to push the power supply back onto the pins one of my initial evaluations of the Wii was "there's no way that dinky fan moves enough air in a case this size." 4 users liked this post: Gamegirl Nostalgia, Nintex, Alpacx, who is ted danson?

The Wii GPU would just artifact and you wouldn't notice much difference in the shit graphics anyway.
Wait a few hours it would cool off and work again. A few games were notorious to overheat. Metroid Prime 3 being one of them. 2 users liked this post: Gamegirl Nostalgia, who is ted danson?

That was not my experience, the artifacting was the sign of death to be and did not go away until the GPU itself died.
