More children worldwide are now obese than underweight for the first time, due partly to rampant junk food access, the United Nations said in a new report.

While the share of school-aged children and teenagers who are underweight has fallen since the turn of the century – from 13 per cent to 9.2 per cent – obesity rates have risen from 3 per cent to 9.4 per cent, according to UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund.

The only regions where children are still more likely to be underweight than obese are sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.

That translates to about 188 million children aged 5 to 19 with obesity globally in 2025, putting them at risk of serious health complications, the report warned. An estimated 184 million children are underweight.

A teaching assistant in South Carolina was arrested and charged for allegedly using "poop spray" at a high school, resulting in children requiring medical attention and thousands of dollars worth of damage to the school, authorities say.

Alexander Paul Robertson Lewis, 32, was arrested by the Florence County Sheriff's Office on Friday, Sept. 19 for allegedly spraying an internet-acquired spray designed to imitate fecal odor at West Florence High School in South Carolina, according to a Florence County Sheriff's Office news release. He has been charged with disturbing schools and malicious injury to property.

Lewis allegedly used the spray between Aug. 25 and Sept. 19, which resulted in disruption at the school, and multiple children requiring medical attention for respiratory issues, according to the news release. The school district also incurred more than $55,000 for inspection and damage to the high school's air conditioning system.

Lewis was taken to the Florence County Detention Center but was released on Saturday, Sept. 20, a Florence County Detention Center employee told USA TODAY on Sept. 22.

Florence 1 Schools did not immediately respond for comment about Lewis' arrest when contacted by USA TODAY on Sept. 22.

President of Bolivia Evo Morales, who is considered a champion of gay rights in Latin America, angered gay-friendly organizations last week after stating that eating genetically modified chicken leads to both homosexuality and baldness in men.

Morales made his comments during a recent climate summit in Cochabamba, Bolivia.

“The chicken we eat is loaded with feminine hormones.  For this reason, eating this chicken leads to disorders in men,” Morales said.  “In Europe, all men are bald, and it’s because of what they eat.  You don’t see bald men among the indigenous peoples.”

During his remarks, Morales also said that it was commonplace in Bolivia for janitors who clean bathrooms to use Coca-Cola to unclog toilets.

A large health care system in Maine said it "sincerely regrets" an error that mistakenly sent condolence letters to patients about their deaths.

MaineHealth, a nonprofit system that includes hospitals, health care facilities and clinics in Maine and New Hampshire, sent letters to 531 patients, expressing condolences that included information on how next of kin could resolve their estates.

A spokesperson for the health system told ABC News that an error in its computer system for generating estate vendor letters led to the mistake.

The spokesperson added that the patients were never listed as deceased in their medical records.

The problem has since been resolved and apology letters were sent to all patients affected by the error, according to the spokesperson.
