Yeah, that's what I'm choosing to do as well. It's just this whole thing has made it absolutely clear just how many users here don't actually care as long as they themselves aren't inconvenienced. It was always the case for many things, but the purple squares being so in your face has made it really obvious as to the scale of that mindset to me.

It's now something I think about every time someone eulogises about different topics and trying to get others to act on it at their own mild inconvenience, which is something I've always loved about this community. But this has highlighted how hypocritical so many are when just something as simple as pasting a different link is too much effort to make, instead making a whole group of users feel almost marginalised. It's really unfair to paint the whole community like that as I'm sure many who do that are also making the effort regarding Imgur links, but it's hard not to start feeling skeptical of folks when you see little to no change in the frequency of purple squares compared to before the community notice and wide publicising of the issue.

So what's got me is much broader than it being a UK-centric issue, and beyond the purple Imgur squares. It's that it's a clear and obvious sign that so many users here maybe don't actually care about mild inconvenience no matter what the issue is and who is affected by it, as long as they themselves aren't affected. It's depressing to now read posts about something fucked up and have my mind go straight to questioning how many people actually care versus just saying they care. Like I say, it's always been this way, but this has really cleared the fog on it.

I hate how it makes me think this way now.

Literally all he has to do is install Proton VPN on Firefox. Takes less than a minute but no, that even that is too much for guy screeching at others not caring about his mild inconvenience

Truthfully, in an international forum it's difficult to pay attention to these kinds of regional things and the most practical solution is for the affected users to look for solutions themselves. Most people are simply going to forget about this small thing that happened somewhere else in the world or categorically don't think they should be inconvenienced by another country's laws. You won't be able to change that. The alternative would be to ban imgur entirely, but, again, it's an international place. I can absolutely understand that administration is hesitant to do that, since next time something like this happens in another country those users would rightfully point at the UK and imgur and say: "hey, if you blocked imgur, why aren't you blocking xy to help us?" They don't want to start the beginning of a loop that might make things an unmanageable mess at some point. With the way the world moves in only the shittiest directions, it's not farfetched to think that the web will only become more restrictive in the future. (I wonder if instead of banning it would be possible to display a warning message if you are about to post an imgur link, but I suppose that's not a feature included in the forum software).







And for the record, whenever I'm posting images I'm using imgbb since this started. I do think you should be able to read threads as easily as possible. But user's forgetting to pay attention and admin being unwilling to ban imgur outright is not some kind of concentrated effort to annoy UK people.
