I just know enough* to know that the AI shit in games--both explicitly and tangentially--is a done deal and here to say. There will be shit implementations of it, cut corners, job losses, etc. But it's not going to stop or go backwards. In part because people don't even care enough to define what "AI usage" in game even consists of. Placeholder art? Maybe ok...? AI voices? Not if voice actors don't get paid...wait, you paid them? Still no!

Then you get weird diminished versions of opposition that are only apply in cases where literal images are generated...and then it's like, what makes a .jpg so special and sacred above all other potentially AI generated things? AI generating extremely human looking NPCs and motion rigging obviously "cost jobs" too...but that didn't matter (and still doesn't).

In fact, I expect devs will stop using Steam's opt-in AI disclosures, because doing so clearly does nothing but put a target on your game. If you don't disclose, and no one notices while playing, does the AI even exist?

I have a pet theory that the main reason people are so assmad about AI are literally because of twitter/bluesky fartists being extremely obnoxious and amazingly influential. Remember the the Genocide when Twitter got bought by Elon? And how the number one reason not to leave twitter was some version of "my artists/my art"? And now that AI figured out how to make a picture of Winnie the Pooh smoking a joint, it's Genocide 2. I can't help but notice the parallels.

I'm not even saying AI is great or perfect or without flaws, but the rules are the same as they ever were. A bad game is a bad game, an uninspired game is an uninspired game, a janky game is a janky game. And anyone can always decline to engage with any game for any reason, no matter how arbitrary. Just don't play games you don't like or don't interest you?

*my uncle works at Nintendo.

These retards are only influential on the internet and with terminally online people like us. Normal people don't care what these idiots think and they have no pull outside of their little bubbles. They exert that influence by being the only group willing to be paid peanuts to generate internet news slop, but as the Hogwarts Legacy/Cyberpunk/*insert other failed boycott campaign here* proves, their influence is minimal. Occasionally, the mainstream picks up on their garbage and their causes achieve mainstream popularity for a few minutes, but their insanity always comes to the fore and normal people go  Do Not Want.

He exposed Geoff's agenda. Extra funny thing is if you look at the comments at any point in the years since this, they're all mocking Joe like:

I love how he truly feels Geoff was the aggressor when he randomly just lambasted him for the whole Jenna Jameson thing. You can tell he instantly regretted going there too because his follow up question was to make sure he was even the executive producer at the time, which he was not. The abrupt topic change and him ending the interview himself after trying to drag it on for so long is comedic gold. The "GUY CAME AT ME PRETTY HARD, I'M NOT GONNA LIE" line as soon as Geoff leaves the frame is just the cherry on top.

I don’t think Gen AI is theft, but it is also shitty if they don’t disclose its usage and the stuff that uses to training it. Not doing by claiming of “Having a target on their back” means that AI is nowhere as accepted as ProAI wants to claim to be. It feels it just benefits corpos than being a genuine argument.

Not saying you are wrong, but the USA was not as blunt as China is, until Trump. Also, the USA allow internal dissident while China puts a front. USA diplomatic approach let them win the soft political power in terms of culture and its reach, while China gets a perpetual 1 step forward and 2 back.

that's better reasoned than most people who just believe the first thing they read ever and then never re-examine how anything works

if it ever does infringe, then whoever's responsible for the infringement obviously deserves whatever's coming to them

but people are like  STOP it stole ghibli's styyyyle

no one ever thinks for a second how fucked artists would be if you COULD copyright a style, disney would just own everything even more than they already do

you CAN copyright a character, like totoro or iron man or sonic, and if someone is misusing a character then they deserve the consequences...the thing is, I'm not sure whether that would really be the model's fault, or the person who asked the model for the character and then went on to misuse it, really seems like it'd be more the latter

The Japanese government should match their energy, and penalize Chinese-owned gacha games operating in Japan. If China wishes to financially punish Japanese cultural exports, then Chinese ones should also receive a penalty.

You can't copyright a character in the same way you can a work, that's why you're more likely to be hit with a trademark violation instead. Nepenthe would definitely not want go down this road or she'd be on the hook for the gobs of precum. Not to mention "producing" actual copyright and trademark infringing art:

You can't copyright a character in the same way you can a work, that's why you're more likely to be hit with a trademark violation instead.

from what I understand, violations for a character must be quite explicit about checking boxes to steal everything about them, for instance having a speech bubble pointing at Mario's face where he's saying "hello I am Mario, I collect coins and mushrooms to help me defeat the evil Bowser"

because that's part of what's being copyrighted about the character, the "story being told"

it's why you can get away with selling a Mario costume without the M on the hat and call it "plumber hero character"

Assuming she just didn't gaffe or whatever.

May be a diplomatic gaffe but China did a petulant and petty answer for something that was accepted in hushed tongues.

The only reason to entertain the idea of this being okay is because the current PM is Right Wing (like most PM since a decade ago).

Yeah, much better for them to just assume they can take the island with everyone's approval. Tacit endorsement worked great to extend Russia's fuse.  Wow!

Endless list of things you can't put in media or allow people to do because it'd just embolden the chuds or help some chud YouTuber propagandize, but if some regional bullies want something you should just pretend you'll give it to them so they don't get upset.
