It does look like, despite it ultimately being 1 senior mod probably having the final burnout, they "hired" mods that had similar personalities since the new mods are saying the old modmail is pretty depressing to read. Oh absolutely. I live next door to a well-paying grocery store and if I don't have any leads coming in by next week, I'm going to start working there to bide the time and keep the lights on. I would Uber Eats drive, as I used to do that in my PhD as well, but my car's now too old to qualify for that I think (has to be at least 10 years old or less I believe? Mine's a '14). I've never been "above" or against those jobs--I'm totally happy as a clam working an "unprofessional" job to make ends meet, so long as I don't get abused or yelled at (a real fear of mine, as someone who has been abused as a neurodivergent person in the workplace), but I can cross that bridge if it happens when I get there. Right now I just need dollars. I used to work at Crate & Barrel actually while also Uber Eats driving AND doing my PhD research at one point--I might go hit them up again and see if they'll take me (I have an eye for design and decor, and they noticed this in-store one day and offered me a job on the spot).



And yes, I do have expensive tech now, stuff I got with my ex but he just dumped me with the stuff and the debt for it and it's a long story....but, most of it I actually used throughout my PhD given I needed to run computational simulations, but at this point I could "fire sale" quite a bit of things, its just I'd have to sell it at such a huge loss to people that want to pay almost nothing for "hand-me-down" items through Facebook Marketplace, I don't know if I could recoup what I need in the time I need. But there are some easy sales I can make, like my PS5 (I never use it with my PC the way it is), and some sound system speakers. Indeed, tech depreciates quickly, so many things like my PS5 I'm not attached to because I can always buy one again when I have real income if there's room for it in my life.



The good news is: as of yesterday, some leads have actually started to materialize (thank you to the poster who DM'd me) and maybe headed in the right direction. Yesterday was pivotal in alleviating some of my depression, since some hope started to appear for a job soon. I hope things can improve in the next week or so.

No it is not "obvious." You must define what context you're complaining about if you want a valid complaint to be considered, and considering the complaints that pave the roads these threads tread upon, they're often vague angst with no direction or solution. So I was at a party yesterday that my gf was invited to. Her friends were there but outside that I didn't recognize anyone else. It was dark and after a bit of joking around with her group I made my way to the balcony. I got wrapped up in talking to some people there, they were alright, and lost track of time and my gf didn't respond to a text I sent earlier. I then looked in and thought I spotted her since I was looking at a girl with her same sweater and hair color.

It was very loud and quite a few more people had arrived so I was just trying to make my way through. Keep in mind it was also dark but the sweater was light enough to see. When I get to her Im just like "hey!" trying to get her attention but she's leaning over the table talking and unaware of me. So I grab her butt and see her jump, and Im laughing going "Its me, calm down!" and when she turns around its not my gf. She looks at me, smiles, and quickly hugs me while Im having no clue who she was at first. So Im just shocked, embarrassed, and confused, but then her face starts forming clearer to me and its my gf's freaking sister. In the dark and without bangs, I truly didn't recognize her and it had been sometime since we last interacted even. So somewhere between me going to the balcony and then, she arrived and asked my gf for her sweater... just screwing me over.

I still see what happened replaying in my head and I didn't even get a chance to explain that I thought she was her sister as she didn't seem to mind and I was too embarrassed in that moment. We just were talking really loud and overly enthusiastic to each other but I was really trying to hide how much I wanted to hit an eject button from that place. I do feel like she is owed an apology and some clarification, but damn its just too awkward.

So anyone ever had a situation like this where you mistook someone else for your partner? Did you explain or just let it blow over?

So I caught my gf's sister smelling my shirt that I left on the counter. She didn't know I could see her from the doorway of the room I was in, but she brought some stuff over and when my gf went to put them away she noticed the shirt and held it up and gave it a whiff lol. And she kind of looked lost in thought while it was like against her mouth for a few seconds. I really don't know how long it would have lasted if she didn't drop it when she heard my gf coming back. It was so strange that it took a while for me to come and say hello, and when she gave me a hug all I could think was like "Is she sniffing me right now?" Lol. Im just going to choose to forget I saw it when Im with her from now on

It reminded me of a time a friend was waiting for a call to see if he got a job. When he saw it was the call he went to another room but it was easy to hear that he got the job with how loud and enthusiastically he was speaking. When I went to go congratulate him he was strutting back and forth with his hand on his hip like a model on the runway. And this is a guy who regularly would tell people to "man up" and how "real men dont say or do X" so of course he froze but I was just like "Did you get it?" and we proceeded to act like I didn't see anything lol.
