Well done GameStop. Your dwindling customer base is pretty much down to neckbeard nerds and young children and you just alienated almost all their parents with some charisma-void douchebag dropping the word "fuck" in the first sentence. Excellent work. Please go bankrupt soon.

I might get one in early 2026 if they are still manufacturing memory chips for human users

Looking in some electronics shops, and considering the current exchange rates, the Switch 2 Pro controller is about $25 cheaper here. May buy one for when I travel home for holidays.

From my brief research, they still don’t use a USB C standard for docking. So I can’t leave my dock in America and use my Steam Deck one here. The Switch 1 dock won’t work either. That’s a shame.

From what I understand, Japanese Switch 2 games play fine in American systems. And again taking advantage of the exchange rate, they’re quite a bit cheaper.

Is the Donkey Kong DLC worth it?

From what I've gathered it's a fan service type of DLC and not really worth it at the price.

I just got the base game and Kirby (switch 1 game with upgrade+dlc). Went back and forth on Kirby Air Ride 2 but Mario Kart is already bundled with it. I’ll pick up a pro controller before my flight.

Looking at some multi platform games, I can see buying them on Switch 2 over PS5 if a PC option isn’t available. Switch 1 ports of PS4 games seemed pretty bad. Switch 2 ports of PS5 games seem fine.

I'm not the biggest fan of roguelikes but I'm enjoying the DLC enough to come back for the monthly events to get the new statues. It's a pure score-attack mode through and through.

Nintendo is taking over the market Xbox left behind.

https://time.com/collections/best-inventions-2025/7318303/nintendo-switch-2/

Quote:The original Nintendo Switch rewrote the rules for portable gaming. Its 2025 sequel increases the power without sacrificing portability. A sampling of its impressive stats: An Nvidia Tegra T239 chip, alongside dedicated ray-tracing and Deep Learning Super-Sampling (DLSS) cores, lets the new model run at 4K on TVs, while the on-device 7.9-inch HDR display runs handheld titles at 1080p and 120Hz, meaning there’s no flicker during gameplay. Its 12 GB of LPDDR5X memory also helps keep sprawling open worlds stutter-free. Launched in June, the console sold 3.5 million units in its first week—making it Nintendo’s fastest-selling hardware ever.

Thanks. Maybe not my type of thing. I’m assuming for Japanese games I buy, I’ll need the DLC from here. Future purchases that’s a consideration.

Not sure if it is the same elsewhere, but digital codes for games are sometimes the equivalent of $5 to $10 cheaper. I’m sticking with carts if there are any cross regional shenanigans. I know that I can’t buy a Nintendo Online code here and have it work with my American account.

Anyway, I think Zelda Echoes, Kirby Forgotten, Donkey Kong, and Mario Kart is a good list.

Has anyone got Kirby Air Riders and/or Sonic Crossworlds?

Not sure which one I should pick.

Also some good sales on Sonic & Shadow Generations and a couple of other launch titles.

Got Fast Fusion for now because it was 10,-.

Haven't played yet. Played Metroid all night. Finally time to hang out with Samus. Finished the second dungeon area good stuff but the pacing between that and the 3rd area is a bit off. The bike stuff I actually enjoy, almost F-Zero-ish in its presentation. But the guy says: "Yeah you can do these in any order" and that's not the case at all. You need upgrades to access certain areas first. They really need to patch that out and just have the guy say the second thing he says after you've tried 2 of the locations with no result:
Spoiler:  (click to show)
"Head for the volcano".

That is the right description. For 10 it's fine. I like the fusion mechanic, merging ships to get a new ship. Apart from that it's very German.

The instant explosion when you hit something is kind of lame. As is the spin out when you bump into others. It takes the flow out of the game.
F-Zero does it better, you bump around, scratch surfaces. Die instantly or get your machine back under control. Hardcore skill based shit. The Dark Souls of racers.

Metroid Prime 4 is fucking amazing though. I feel like I'm in a combination of The Matrix, Halo 4, Doom, Riddick, and Alien.
It feels "alien" with all the weird textures and materials. Still weird they made F-Zero tracks for Samus in advance though but that's Metroid I guess.

Downside of being meticulous with cord management is when specs change and you need to replace everything. My TV is old enough that it doesn’t support HDMI 2.1 but I had my Switch 1 plugged into my even older soundbar with its HDMI switcher limited to 1080p 60hz. I’ll figure it out tomorrow and how to transfer system data.

I opted to just use fake surround from my soundbar realizing my Xbox already had the ARC port for HDMI passthrough.

I'll change that when/if Nintendo ever drops a Switch 2 with Atmos support or the Xbox, which is little more than a 4K Blu Ray player at this point dies.

The powa of the Switch 2 can run the eshop without massive lag it’s a Christmas miracle!!

I’m still messing with display setting because it’s oddly dull. Reading there were HDR issues that have been patched. But it’s not looking right. Also surround sound doesn’t work. Looking online, it’s common issue and the only fix is connecting directly to soundbar. Not an option but it is not a big deal for me.

I will say, it’s been some time since I took my launch Switch out of the dock and assembled it. It’s a cheap and flimsy thing compared to the Switch 2. It’s also dying. Or has been dying and I never noticed because it’s docked in my media cabinet. The fan makes a loud grinding noise. The few minutes it wasn’t plugged in, just sitting there, the battery dropped nearly 20%. Maybe I didn’t understand the transfer process but it seems totally usable. It didn’t wipe any data.

For HDR on the first screen you can now toggle the value so you can adjust it by the nits of your TV rather than guessing with the suns.
The second screen is key. About 6 - 7 clicks for paper white.

Also set RGB to Limited for TV's (full: PC monitor only) and turn off the toggle to use HDR for incompatible games.
It's probably the RGB setting.

Last night I booted up Donkey Kong with the intention of passing the tutorial and heading to bed. Three hours later I’m still smashing up the first 100 layer level. Seems pretty good!

I’m using the switch 2 pro controller and it’s slightly less comfortable than the switch 1 one. Think the grips are too thin.

I ditched surround sound for a soundbar years ago now. Who can be fucked with multi speaker setups these days?
Reply
It is a soundbar with “fake” surround. Most of my setup is ancient. This soundbar has been here for over a decade now. Living in apartments, I can’t go all out with audio anyway. I’ve an LG OLED in Japan, too, and I don’t bother with a soundbar there. If I need decent audio I’ll use headphones. Just wish AirPod pros didn’t have lag with non-Apple devices. Bought a 3.5mm Bluetooth adapter I need to test out.

Speaking of, I’ll probably end up buying a second dock over there out of sheer laziness. Everything I’m reading says to buy the official dock instead of a cheap alternative.

Genki is coming out with a covert dock for Switch 2 soon.  There should be no problems with using that over the official dock.

I’ll keep an eye on it. But really, I’m taking advantage of the exchange rates for the accessories so it isn’t that bad.

I’ve been going back and forth between the two Pro controllers. Definitely prefer the grip of the original. Some regret over buying the Switch 2 Pro when, afaik, waking the system from sleep and grip buttons are the only advantages.

Need to try some 8bitdo controllers lying around here too. It’s confusing. There’s no reason why all their controllers can’t be updated to work. They want to sell “ultimate” controllers or whatever. But maybe it can and they don’t tell you. This cheap $12 pink controller I got of theirs didn’t work on raspberry pi until I held a button combo and toggled power. It wasn’t in any of the manuals and only learned of it from a random forum post about a different controller.

The 8bitdo Ultimate C is a great cheaper option. Feels great in the hand. Hall effect joystick I believe.
