Great post, and I agree with the read and intentionality behind Verso. My original post was just me being hyperbolic and I'm surprised anybody sincerely agreed with it, at least to the extent stated - 'genocidal maniac' is farther than I'd have gone. I do stand by the core sentiment at play, namely that Verso is...gross and problematic in his execution, in ways that actually make the story less complex than it could have been, and maybe someday I'll get into that on this board when E33 discourse has simmered down. Verso genuinely feels to me like he has that has every last tell of an author writing her own dreamy tortured boyfriend and bending over backwards for him, and it's the most I've cringed at a character in any game this past year for it.

I saw a complete stranger commit suicide right in front of me a few years ago and it still flashes through my head with surprising regularity. With that context, I can only imagine how much worse it would be to find family members dead and have to live with the knowledge that someone else did that to them. I'm so sorry for you and your family.

I see it slightly differently, Kirk’s murder was explicitly political and due to the team sport nature of current US politics decorum has been thrown completely out the window.  Reiner’s death seems to be familial in nature, and Trump is celebrating because Reiner was vocally anti-trump, which has nothing to do with the murder so far as we know.  He’s happy that someone who didn’t like him is dead, as opposed to feeling like someone’s death has hurt your opponent or helped your political goals.  It’s classless and petty at best, and the president should be above that. Should we have different standards for compassion for victims of murder?  Probably not, but we definitely do.
