Thank you for your totally anecdotal experience to this conversation. I'm gonna share my anecdotal experience too: my friends from China have told me repeatedly everyone they know that has gone to the US after hearing all the news about how life there is so good and they would make so much money (from Chinese media shockingly!), have ended up returning because life in the USA absolutely sucks.

Since you invited yourself to this whataboutism, here are some grounded words for an useful idiot: Xi Jinping wishes he had the same level of national support to be elected twice in bourgeois elections (despite being known that USA's president is a serial rapist); Xi wishes it had the same level of unconditional support and collaboration from the big data fascists technocrats as the USA; Xi wishes it had half of its country media wilfully collaborating and supporting his authoritarian government without resorting to censorship; Xi wishes he would have half the level of impunity and support to foster a culture of fascist institutional violence, systematically break the (international) law, and openly participate in genocide.

I was one of the game's biggest fans weeks ago. What a delightful surprise that I had no idea was going to be some fun and engaging. Great story. Earning wins everywhere. I even felt an urge to hype it up to sort of "troll" in the surprisingly polarized discourse about it.

Then the bit about them using AI assets came out/got revived.

I am both pleased and disappointed with how quickly my enthusiasm for the game waned after that. You never really know how staunch your morals are until they're tested. AI is clearly a hard line for me. Don't care that E33's winning stuff, no longer encouraging friends to check it out, I've just completely soured on it. I genuinely don't see myself supporting whatever Sandfall does next either, and I have similar feelings about Larian's embracing of it.. Not like I need video games in my life.

Every time someone calls her pretty or tries to make her play up her looks it feels dirty. Every time she sleeps with a man it's nasty and unnatural. When her husband abuses her her mom sides with the husband and her male friends don't know how to help. The people there for her are her lesbian ex and her lesbian opponent, who's also the conscience of the movie who tries to help her be less of an asshole. The most triumphant moments are speaking against her abuser in court and coming out – there's more emphasis on those than on the victories in the ring. That's one of the many reasons I think this is a great movie – it works as formula, while accomplishing something very different.

I played before this and knowing that they used AI for placeholder explained to me a bit of the things I didn't liked it but couldn't explain, this game for me is trying to hard to "be art" from people that doesn't understand what "being art" is (or that doesn't even exist a thing that isn't art), knowing that they tried AI confirmed my assumption.
