We can pretty much guarantee this is a skit, because the conversation doesn't seem natural and neither of them seem like they know what they're doing.

If it were real, assuming she's asking for FY25 YTD (likely the latest year judging by the visible entries), we could do this pretty quickly by adding another column called FY and using either:

Option 1:
IF(
    MONTH(B3) >= 10,
    YEAR(B3) +1,
    YEAR(B3)
)

Option 2:
IF(
    B3 >= DATE(YEAR(2024), MONTH(10), DAY(1)),
    "2025",
    "2024"
)

Then just filter FY column to 2025 and highlight column D.

Or if you want the sum to be based on an FY that has been selected, assuming your FY column was column E and you want to put the selected FY in A1:

= SUMIFS('Table data'!D:D, 'Table data'!E:E, A1)

Data validation on A1 would be useful if either of these 2 have access to the workbook.

It looks like this data is being pasted from somewhere, and if they have the ability to query a data source that would be much better. In which case they could add a custom column in Power Query with the same process in M. This would make it nicer in the future.

If this isn't real, then we can just assume the skit isn't written very well and she really just wants the sum of column D which just requires you to highlight column D.
