This is going to be a complicated ask, we recognize this, but there is a difference between explaining the dynamic and justifying actions. A gap between denouncing the violence and attempting to silence. To try and keep discussion going, here are a few points we ask members to follow:

It is far too easy for social media users to take footage from one event and claim it's from this one, misrepresenting what is going on. This happens constantly in other situations as well. Use actual sources please.

We should try and avoid justifying any of the violence that has or will take place. If you think this is going to be the end of it, there's a bridge in Brooklyn that is currently for sale. This is only the start of mass violence in the region, the Israeli government is definitely going to escalate and Hamas will likely respond. This isn't the end of it.

Instead of insulting each other or making insinuations, send in a report. Derailing the thread with personal insults when you think someone is breaking the rules is a fast way to feel good about yourself, but it also takes the spotlight off the situation. If someone is doing something horrific, send in a report and we'll handle it. Don't engage

With all due respect, I don't see how this title is remotely misleading. It acknowledges that Gaza is under bombardment (which it is) and it was caused by an attack by Hamas. It also includes an important quote from the Israeli PM. How else would you have written out a succinct title?

Because it implies this is business as usual while ignoring the severity and brutality of Hamas attack.

We know how these threads turn out, people are obviously heated, they are just a bunch of volunteers in an impossible situation and I feel like we could afford them a bit of grace if the wording isn't as exact as someone else would make it.

Except I haven't seen any evidence that any of the men that swarmed the event actually transitioned, dressed up as women, or even attempted to pose as women (trans or cis) in any way, other than entering phony personal info details on the registration form. (The news story cited in the OP even says they were "self-identifying men".) Which shows for the umpteenth time that it's not trans women creating hostility/danger in women's spaces, it's cis men.

Of course, TERF spin will claim that it shows exactly the opposite, phony phenomenon occurring because bad faith actors are bad faith.

Absolutely not. As CharMomone mentioned, there's non-binary people & trans women going to these events that would absolutely not get into them if their jury of cis people wouldn't deem them feminine enough. Maybe men should be better taught to stay out of events not for them. To not always feel entitled to partake somewhere when they're so very clearly not fucking wanted. Especially cishet men need to understand that the whole fucking world is open to them, quite frankly made for them thanks to patriarchy. The handful of conferences & other events that women or queer people have build up for themselves over the years aren't going to take all their fucking job opportunities away. Just as places like queer clubs or bars won't take away all of their potential girlfriends. Or clubs only for women, in which they can for once dance & dress however they like without any men sexually harassing them. Has the same stench as the men yelling about "What about international men's day???" on international women's day when it literally already fucking exists.
