Calling Israel's actions and Hamas' actions "similarly evil" is plain bothsidesism. Evil isn't quantifiable anyway, and although Hamas attacking Israel is undeniably evil and horrific, ethnical cleansing and systematic war crimes isn't qualitatively "the same" as guerrilla warfare tactics and terrorism. This is an asymmetrical war if there ever was one.

I try my hardest to save the condescension in situations that deserve it (although I can admit I'm not perfect), such as the persistent, sinister conspiracies that hover over the way staff function, as well as the generalized demanding behavior from grown adults who should know better.

On top of that, I've been at this rodeo long enough to know that plenty of people here think they can push it because they indeed view staff as workers to step on, or that because we're higher up in the pecking order that we are obligated to grin and bear nonsense. Subsequently I'm not going to take any kind of attitude; if I wanted to do that I'd actually go back to retail.

If you want me to not be condescending when responding to you with any questions or concerns you have, even if it's regarding a fuck up or a procedure on our end, just don't come with an attitude. It's really that simple.

I think you guys are too critical of the staff, look how quickly they mastered the subjects of the conflict in the Middle East and Indian history to be able to make clear guidelines for everyone to have productive discussion about these topics. Sure, this makes Nepenthe's job a bit harder but can you think of another forum staff that would spend so much time making specific non-binding yet also binding rules for every topic that comes up? I can't, most would fall into the pattern we expect of capitalism, colonialism and white supremacy and equally apply rules to all posters and topics, but the staff recognize the importance of ad hoc, arbitrary and hidden rules to ensuring an inclusive community to everyone.

I was listening this morning to the news about this on MSNBC, ala Morning Joe. They were talking about how this attack was basically Israel's 9/11 and the colossal fuckup of their intelligence. They had one of their Israeli reporters responding to their US reporter and basically said all the cold-hard facts were him saying he was anti-Israel. It was actually pretty shocking.

Any type of fact-checking of Israel is immediately met with hammer-like attacks.

No shit, that’s what happened during the 9/11 days.
