Occupy Protestors numbering from the hundreds to the thousands used Guerrilla tactics to blocade streets at random, shut down ports of entry, and marched into corporate headquarters and occupied board rooms.

They became such a nuisance to the people in power that despite only causing half a billion dollars in economic damages, the Billionaire class spent multiple fucking billions to deride the movement and make you think it was useless.

Because they were fucking scared.

In 2017, Thousands stormed Airports and shut them down to protest the Muslim Ban. Flights were delayed at the cost of about a hundred million dollars to the economy and they halted deportations until the legal system could catch up.

When George Floyd was murdered in broad daylight thousands took took to the streets and shut down portions of the economy. Will you do the same now that a woman was murdered in broad daylight? Because you clearly didn't do it when they were kidnapping people, when those people died in detention centers, nor did you do shit when the survivors were deported to a developing nation to be sold into slave labour. Nor did you do it when Democratic politicians were assassinated in cold blood.

You were so close. You realize that billionaires care about their bottom line, but fail to realize that huring the economy hurts their bottom line. Every single time you attack the economy, the billionaire class gets scared. And they put pressure on politicians to get them to either slow down or back the fuck down.

How much economic damage have you done this past year? Canada did more by just banning alcohol.

I truly believe something needs to be done about the number of nihilistic posts happening. I get shit is rough right now and it's fine to be distraught about it. There's a massive difference between "This makes me feel shitty and I'm having a time getting past this," and "There's no reason for this continue, we should give up." Same with "This kid is going to have a hard life because of what happened to their parent and I hope they have a lot of support to move through this," versus "The kid's life is destroyed and it's heartbreaking."

You need to start ignoring threads or reporting stuff. I'm not a nihilistic person myself but Era always skews negative as does the internet in general. Esp with the state of things across the world and everyones individual circumstances

I honestly feel like neither of you read my post or misunderstood it and then completely skipped over [USER=421]Minthara[/USER]'s.

I did actually read through and understand everything completely, and the larger topic of conversation...but even then there still is just nothing you can actually do about that.  Things are horrifying right now, and this is already one of the few "safe" spaces left to fully vent, so ofcourse people are going to do that.  I honestly agree with both of you as well, but again...idk what the answer is.

I've noted that this nihilism gets particularly bad whenever a topic involves bringing up kids in today's world. The internet as a whole, ERA included, has reached a point where people say shit like its irresponsible to have kids and that they are glad they don't have kids who will have to go through what's about to come (whether that's climate change, geopolitics, rising fascism, AI or more) and it's like..gee thanks.



It's cool that you've lost all hope, but not all of us have. Many of the kids being born and raised today are going to be the ones who have to continue this world, whatever it is, and are going to be growing up with the consequences of all the previous generations. While that does mean things are going to be extremely tough in many ways, it's going to be a generation that is going to be better equipped than most of the current 20 and 30 year olds to fight back, considering your average 20 and 30 year old knew a "before the financial crisis", "before COVID", "Before X, Y, Z", etc that derailed their lives, ruined their job prospects, ensured they can't have a house, etc. And all of that is due to the older generations hoarding, yes, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't have some shred of hope for the future.



The nihilism and the "well, we are all fucked anyway" is what leads to us not fixing shit in the here and now, and it also means that we don't properly care to find solutions to the young men to alt right pipeline and other things because it's "too late".



Call me overtly hopeful, but the way through much of what is happening right now isn't to kick back and enjoy doomsday.



In many ways the kids being born now are the one we should be throwing our support behind and ensuring have the best chance of success, because they have the best chance at reversing the downward slope of quality of life thats impacted so many of us, and are the generation where the parents and people older than them have a chance to leave them a better world and life. Not a world without its own unique challenges due to the years of accumulated issues, every generation faces these days, but the opportunity for their parents (who are in the 25-45 range) to actually give their kids a better life than what they got.
