For all the memes about how the US government does whatever they want the oil industry has a long history of being told by the US government to go into somewhere just to, after the administration changes, get their assets seized and the US government telling them they'll be prosecuted if they don't pull out of countries. Any of them who believe Trump will be able to end, or hell, just fix PDVSA (and past his term in office) deserve to lose their money.

It's the same thing they often do because it's the laziest ad hoc defense anyone can make. Claim there's some context you're missing. By the time you find out the context and see it makes Hasan look even stupider now they can attack you for not moving on and being a stalker and ICE is literally murdering people in the streets maybe focus on that and so on.

Like there's no context in which Hasan looks good for saying that Andrew Ryan is praising socialism at the start of BioShock or that China is the ideal system to replicate. He can't defend either of these takes or any of the others he makes. But hypothetically, in theory, there's a defense that could be made and so the burden is on you to assume that's the one he'd make. Even though if you then attack that theory he can say "I never said that."

It's the tactics of Creationists because it's the same situation: there's no positive defense that can be made because it's a matter of faith.

If I was in charge I’d probably do something about these ICE people, because, you know, shooting women in the face, chasing delivery drivers into basements and randomly firing weapons in the streets isn’t great pr. It’s kind of a bad look. People don’t like it.

I’d probably start with a rebrand. Instead of ICE, I’d call them NICE. Instead of murdering women in broad daylight. NICE agents would help them with their groceries. We all need delivery drivers. They’re essential workers. We shouldn’t have fascist goons larping as federal agents chasing these drivers into stranger’s basements. It’s not good. They don’t like it. It fucks up their deliveries and people don’t get their stuff. Things would be much better for everyone if NICE gave drivers free Reiki sessions instead of trying to deport them. Replacing ICE’s toy store uniforms with some robes would go a long way to calming things down too. The money that would be saved if we had NICE agents helping people instead of murdering, terrorising and deporting them could go to other nice things like affordable housing or healthcare or free pizza Fridays. Wouldn’t that be better.
