Y'all really gotta learn how to take the L when a bunch of queer people hand it to you.

Because we've dealt with people like this our entire lives. We knew ONE thing about this guy, he made ONE comment, and it was immediately obvious to us exactly what sort of piece of shit he was.

The first words out of this prick's mouth, in the wake of the murder of his former daughter-in-law, were to erase the existence of her lesbian widow. It was not slick. It was not subtle. It was the worst kind of homophobia. We told you then, day-and-date, and we'll tell you again the next time.

When people show you who they are, and when others point out that they are showing you who they are, believe them and believe us.

The Absolution wrote:Dude I'm queer. I still would've waited for more than a single sentence. Like, congrats you happened to be right! Good for you!
I might've agreed in this case but I would've never said it because I might be wrong. Sucks that I wasn't.

AnimeJesus wrote:Not going to bat for the guy, just not assuming I know who he was based on one comment. Anyways most people's assumptions were correct with this guy, though that's not always the case. Here's your "W," I'm moving on.

Kaladin wrote:Nobody went to bat for the guy. Everyone literally said to wait until we find out more rather than rushing to judgement based on one sentence when the focus should be on the person who was just executed in the street.

Congrats though.

Jeff Marvel wrote:This will be my last response to you, which is only happening because you decided to tag a bunch of us in a "gotcha" post while purposefully misrepresenting what most of us said.

I said in two different posts that it was a weird quote from the grandfather, but that I think it's important to wait for more information before making accusations on. I also clearly stated that those making the accusation could be correct:

At absolutely no point did I "go to bat" for this man. My entire point, which I think was stated clearly and that I stand by, was that I don't think it's appropriate or responsible to be making those accusations based on one single-sentence quote that sounds questionable and that we shouldn't be trying to dissect the beliefs of any family members on such little information.

How many times has this community (myself included!) jumped to conclusions only to be completely wrong while attacking or defending someone? I could give multiple examples from both the gaming and etcetera sites, and I'm sure you have some that immediately come to mind as well.

I've tried to be better about that kind of stuff, and I think we all should. You were absolutely right about this but I still stand by the belief that it's better to be responsible and wait for more information, which we now have, before making accusations.

The way they have started to use the word “weird” to mean “possibly or ambiguously homophobic” in the past year or so is so goddamn annoying.

This will probably make a lot of people unhappy but it's also a conclusion I came years ago so, hey, be unhappy. Why does this thread have fifteen pages? I clicked onto the last page and people are still saying twenty year old "facts" that are blatantly wrong. You have a guy talking about how some Gamecube ports didn't have shader effects, when the Xbox was the only console that supported shaders. The PS2 did full screen effects not shaders, you couldn't do shaders on the GCN for the same reason the Wii couldn't despite the upclocks, the memory format was slow. On both you just faked it. For mostly the same reason that we pre-compile shaders these days. And most of the ports during that era were dropping things because of time, not power. Even lead platforms only got a year of dev time often. Somebody should bring up how MGS2 on Xbox loses effects and has a bad framerate, surely that's proof that PS2 is most powerful. MGS3 didn't even come out on Xbox!

Imagine if the people on that forum could care about trans genocide or the imperialism of Black bodies this much.

Quote:I think what we all can agree with, no matter what part of the world we live in, is that we've had more than enough of all the BS from USA. As long as the orange turd is running the country, nobody is safe. We can't vote and we can't convince Americans to defend their own democracy. But we absolutely can hit them in the one place that matters them the most: their wallets.

We have already seen Trump will TACO when Wall Street gets nervous. We know he's backed by billionaires. We know he ran on promises for a new golden age for his followers. His hardcore base still believes it's coming, even when they are being strangled by Trump's economy. Well, they are going to have to be strangled harder! Wall Street has to feel panic and and billionaires have to get poorer. We *can* make that happen, if we follow the example from Canadians and boycott American products and services. So, instead of complaining, how about out your money where your mouth is and start doing some changes to your consumer habits?

- Stop buying from Amazon. Everything is available on other stores.

- Quit American subscriptions: Netflix, Disney, Audible, US magazines, etc.

- Get rid of US stocks from your portfolio.

- Don't go to see American films on cinema.

- No Teslas

- No iPhones, iPads or other Apple products.

- No Microsoft software if you can avoid it

- No Xbox or American video games, board games, card games, etc.

- No US liquor, cider, beer, etc.

- No US fast food or soft drinks

IMPORTANT: nobody is expected to boycott 100% everything. American products are everywhere and lots of people have to use certain software for work etc. But it's better to do something than nothing. If you won't stop using Windows, could you at least switch to OpenOffice? If you keep buying games from Steam, could you at least not buy US made games? If you won't quit all your subscriptions, could you get rid of some? The important thing is to change your habits. If you can change only one thing, then do that thing. But do as much as you can.

Make sure to let other people know what you are doing. Social pressure is a powerful thing.

Don't let anyone tell you your efforts are pointless. The US won't be bombing people with your money. That's reason enough to boycott.

Yahsper wrote:How are we supposed to react? Things go both ways. When Americans talk about the rest of the world, they're not taking account of every individual. When we're talking about the evils of Russia or Israel, we're not taking account of every Russian or Israeli individual. How did every Gaza thread go for people who came in and went "hey guys, there are some decent Israeli people too who are against all this so don't be too mean about Israel"? But when it comes down to the US, a bunch of people here suddenly start clenching their necklaces.

As someone from the outside looking in, the situation is incredibly frustrating. We knew who Trump was, we knew about Project 2025, we knew about the megalomaniac and sociopath people he wanted to put in charge, we knew about Trump being a sex pest, a fraud, a thief, admiring autocrats, we knew of his disdain for third world countries, his disdain for alliances, for NATO, we knew about his climate change denial, his corruption, his blackmail attempt of Zelensky for personal political gain, his coming out of the White House to swing a Bible around in the middle of the George Floyd protests.

And still it was all dismissed and more Americans voted for Trump than ever before and many Democrats stayed at home or switched sides because the Biden status quo 'wasn't good enough'. And now every non-American on Resetera who vents his frustration about this has to deal with Americans who just can't help but make it about them.

They feel the need to point out how they really are doing something, "just look at the No Kings Protests" in October which had 5-7 million people participating. Great, but in raw numbers that's a bit bigger than the city of Buenos Aires celebrating their world cup win in 2022, in percentages that's not even 2% of the population. We are supposed to be impressed by that? My dad went to jail for participating in the May '68 protests, protests that lasted two months and had about 10 million people join (20% of the population). More recently, we've had the Arab Spring, Euromaidan, the Georgia protests, the Iran protests.

The resistance of the American population against the Trump government is milquetoast at best and when non-Americans call that out, instead of being indignant about it, accept that no country with an authoritarian government 1) makes it easy for people to gather 2) make it safe to protest 3) loves their people so much they have no reason to protest. Yet we have to hear those excuses over and over. I'm not blaming you for not risking your life, for instead going to your job so you can feed your families, for not sticking your neck out. I'm not even frustrated at that particularly because it's very understandable and I don't know if I would do it differently. But I do blame every American who denies they have a responsibility (as the only ones who can stop this are the American people themselves) and gives excuses, instead of just admitting they are afraid.

And on an individual level, if you already accept that you have that responsibility and are doing everything in your power, then great, stop feeling personally attacked. Then it's not addressed to you.
